New Insights About the Role of Sn‐Rich and Pb‐Rich Phases Over the Corrosion Mechanism of Low‐Tin Quaternary Bronze Alloys Under Sulfur‐Containing Conditions

A mechanistic proposal for the initial steps of quaternary bronze corrosion in media containing sulfate was described. The process is driven by microgalvanic effects along the microstructure, generating anodic sites over lead and tin rich phases and cathodic sites onto Cu‐rich phases.
