Pruning slash drives ambrosia beetle (Curculionidae: Scolytinae, Platypodinae) activity in Khaya grandifoliola C.DC.: Slash removal as a preventive management strategy Resíduos de poda aumentam a atividade de besouros da ambrosia (Curculionidae: Scolytinae, Platypodinae) em Khaya grandifoliola C.DC.: A remoção dos resíduos como estratégia preventiva de manejo

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Slash retention increased ambrosia beetle activity in Khaya grandifoliola, acting as both breeding substrate and source of attractive volatile cues that promoted localized population buildup. Beetle attacks occurred only near retained slash, while no attacks were recorded in slash‐removal plots, demonstrating that residue removal effectively prevents ...

Integrating traditional practices, livelihoods, and conservation with Indigenous‐led furbearer camera trapping

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Contemporary conservation goals have a greater chance of success when practitioners collaborate with Indigenous communities. The importance of such collaborations has spurred calls by Western and Indigenous researchers to engage in equitable coproduction of ecological research that integrates multiple ways of knowing.

Landscape forest cover, not edge contrast, modulates edge effects on palm diversity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 6, June 2026.
Our findings demonstrate that landscape forest cover plays a critical role in modulating edge effects in plant communities in our study system, but not all woody crops systems provide buffering benefits, as cacao plantations in our study failed to soften edge effects.

Climate‐induced shifts in long‐term tropical tree reproductive phenology: Insights from species dependent on and independent of biotic pollination

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 1286-1298, May 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The dependence on biotic pollination may constrain plant phenological responses because flowering time ultimately defines reproductive success. We proposed a local‐scale study combining long‐term phenology and experimental data to evaluate how a key functional trait—the
