Ionospheric control of space weather [PDF]
As proposed by Saka (2019), plasma injections arising out of the auroral ionosphere (ionospheric injection) are a characteristic process of the polar ionosphere at substorm onset.

Fractal approach to description of the auroral structure [PDF]
During the last two decades the fractal geometry has become a powerful approach to different physical problems. It is also found to be useful in image processing applications. A numerical quantity that characterizes the auroral structure would be

Chemistry of the Jovian auroral ionosphere [PDF]
We have investigated the chemistry of the Jovian auroral thermosphere‐/ionosphere by modeling the precipitation of high‐energy electrons into the auroral zones using a multistream electron‐transport code and three model thermospheres: a standard model based on pressure and temperature data from Galileo, and two additional models that are characterized ...

Westward moving dynamic substorm features observed with the IMAGE magnetometer network and other ground-based instruments [PDF]
We present the ground signatures of dynamic substorm features with particular emphasis on the event interpretation capabilities provided by the IMAGE magnetometer network.

Ionospheric signatures of magnetospheric boundaries in the post-noon sector [PDF]
Spatial structures in ionospheric electron density revealed in a tomographic image have been identified with auroral forms and related to their sources in precipitating particles observed by DMSP satellites.

Auroral and sub-auroral phenomena: an electrostatic picture [PDF]
Many auroral and sub-auroral phenomena are manifestations of an underlying magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling. In the electrostatic perspective the associated auroral current circuit describes how the generator (often in the magnetosphere) is connected

Ionospheric response to variable electric fields in small-scale auroral structures [PDF]
High time and space resolution optical and radar measurements have revealed the influence of electric fields on E-region electron density profiles in small-scale auroral structures.

Combined ESR and EISCAT observations of the dayside polar cap and auroral oval during the May 15, 1997 storm [PDF]
The high-latitude ionospheric response to a major magnetic storm on May 15, 1997 is studied and different responses in the polar cap and the auroral oval are highlighted.

The motion of ions in the auroral ionosphere [PDF]
The ion motion in the E and F regions relative to the local magnetic field line and the horizontal plane has been determined from the European incoherent scatter (EISCAT) common program 1 version I (CP‐1‐I) data. The ion motion highly depends on altitude and magnetospheric electric field strength. Under the condition of a strong electric field (|E| >

Ionospheric Boundaries Derived From Auroral Images
AbstractThis paper presents updated methods for locating the Poleward and Equatorward Auroral Luminosity Boundaries (PALB and EALB) directly from IMAGE Far UltraViolet (FUV) images of the Northern Hemisphere auroral oval. Separate boundaries are determined from images measured at different FUV wavelengths.
