Variant selection of lenticular martensite by ausforming

Scripta Materialia, 2012
The variant selection of lenticular martensite transformed from austenite in an Fe–25Ni–0.5C alloy uniaxially compressed at 973 K was investigated quantitatively. It was found that four variants with habit planes closely parallel to the compression plane were favorably formed.

Mechanical Properties of Ausformed Carbide-Free Bainite

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2021
In this study, the effect of ausforming temperature and strain on the bainite transformation in a model alloy containing 0.39 pct C, 2.0 pct Mn, 1.9 pct Si, and 0.5 pct Cr (mass percent) was investigated. Samples were deformed at 300 °C, followed by isothermal holding to monitor the phase transformation kinetics.

Nitrogen and Ausforming to Improve Stainless Martensitic Steels

steel research international, 2014
The chromium content of standard martensitic stainless steel X65Cr14 is raised to 17 mass% to enhance the solubility of nitrogen. Up to 4 mass% of nickel are added to suppress a partially ferritic solidification. This combination increases the nitrogen content soluble at 1 bar pressure from 0.14 to 0.24 mass%, which allows to reduce the carbon content ...

Ausforming of austempered ductile iron alloyed with nickel

International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 2006
Abstract The unique properties of austempered ductile iron (ADI) are related to the ausferrite matrix (stable high carbon austenite with fine acicular ferrite) formed during the austempering treatment of ductile iron castings. Ausforming of ADI adds a mechanical processing component to the conventional ADI heat treatment, thus increasing the rate of ...

High-strength of modified Ausform 9CrODS steels

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2011
Abstract Hot-rolling at the austenitic γ phase (1000 °C) led to a formation of ultra-fine grains and a high dislocation density within grain interiors by an Ausform process. Those heavily accumulated strains accelerated coarsening of prior austenite grains, and block grains transformed from the coarsened prior austenite grains were also coarser in ...

Application of Ausforming Techniques to Track Shoes

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1968
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Sections approximately the size and shape of the load bearing portions of a standard track shoe for military track laying vehicles have been produced by an ausforging process. These sections were ausforged from H-11 consumable vacuum melt, H-11 conventional melt, and SAE 4340 conventional melt steel.

Formation of the structure of constructional steels in ausforming by extrusion

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1971
1. In ausforming 40Kh, 40KhN, and 40KhNM steels by extrusion with various degrees of deformation a structure is obtained characterized by the varying degree of elongation of the grains. 2. Under the investigated conditions of ausforming by extrusion the optimum degree of deformation is 70%.

New insights to the effects of ausforming on the bainitic transformation

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2015
Abstract The effects of prior deformation conditions on the bainitic transformation are investigated using dilatometry and optical metallography. The influences of both deformation temperature and strain on bainite transformation kinetics and morphology are examined in superbainitic carbide-free steel. The transformation is retarded by deformation at
