Influence of flow stress of ausformed austenite on strength of ausformed martensite

Materials Chemistry and Physics, 1986
Abstract The relationship between the flow stress of austenite at ausforming temperature and the hardness of the ausformed martensite (or austenite) at room temperature was studied using martensitic steel 18CrNiW and austenitic steel 18-8. Ausforming was performed with a torsion test machine at various temperatures between 723K and 923K and at strain

Ausforming of medium carbon steel

Materials Science and Technology, 2015
The prospect of enhancing the hardness of low alloy steel for the manufacture of fasteners is examined using ausforming, in which the austenite is deformed rapidly at a low temperature to increase its dislocation density before quenching in order to obtain the harder martensite.

Effect of ausforming on nanobainite steel

Scripta Materialia, 2010
The effect of ausforming on kinetics, morphology and crystallography of nanobainite steel was examined by electron backscattered diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Ausforming has been found to accelerate bainite transformation at 573 K. A characteristic microstructure consisting of blocky bainitic laths and retained austenite is observed

Mechanical Properties of Ausformed Carbide-Free Bainite

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2021
In this study, the effect of ausforming temperature and strain on the bainite transformation in a model alloy containing 0.39 pct C, 2.0 pct Mn, 1.9 pct Si, and 0.5 pct Cr (mass percent) was investigated. Samples were deformed at 300 °C, followed by isothermal holding to monitor the phase transformation kinetics.

Grain Size of Ausformed Steel

Nature, 1965
THE grain size of the ultra-strong, ausformed steels is probably an important factor in their strength and ductility, but it is yet uncertain. The structures are so fine and complex that even the electron microscope has not hitherto revealed the grain structure clearly.
