Decomposition of Austenite in Austenitic Stainless Steels
Austenitic stainless steels are probably the most important class of corrosion resistant metallic materials. In order to attain their good corrosion properties they rely essentially on two factors: a high chromium content that is responsible for the protective oxide film layer and a high nickel content that is responsible for the steel to remain ...

Influence of cold-rolling reduction on retained austenite texture in cold-rolled and intercritically annealed TRIP-assisted steel [PDF]
The newly developed multiphase transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steels are of interest for industrial applications because of their excellent combination of high strength and ductility.

Mechanisms of the Reverse Martensite-to-Austenite Transformation in a Metastable Austenitic Stainless Steel [PDF]
The martensite-to-austenite reversion mechanisms under continuous heating and annealing of metastable austenitic stainless steel subjected to cold swaging were studied. The reversion-temperature-time diagram was constructed using high-resolution dilatometry. The diagram revealed a sequence of martensitic and diffusional reversion and recrystallization.

NiTi shape-memory transformations: minimum-energy pathways between austenite, martensites, and kinetically-limited intermediate states [PDF]
NiTi is the most used shape-memory alloy, nonetheless, a lack of understanding remains regarding the associated structures and transitions, including their barriers.

A theoretical review of the operation of vibratory stress relief with particular reference to the stabilization of large-scale fabrications [PDF]
Vibratory stress relief (VSR) is widely used on large welded fabrications to stabilize the structures so that they do not distort during further machining or during operational duty.

Advances in martensitic transformations in Cu-based shape memory alloys achieved by in situ neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction methods [PDF]
This article deals with the application of several X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to investigate the mechanics of a stress induced martensitic transformation in Cu-based shape memory alloy polycrystals. It puts experimental results obtained by two

Austenitization of FerriticDuctile Iron [PDF]
Abstract Austenitization is the first step of heat treatment preceding the isothermal quenching of ductile iron in austempered ductile iron (ADI) manufacturing. Usually, the starting material for the ADI production is ductile iron with more convenient pearlitic matrix.

Shear-induced α → γ transformation in nanoscale Fe-C composite [PDF]
High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and three-dimensional atom probe observations show clearly that a reverse transformation of body-centred cubic ferrite to face-centred cubic austenite occurs during severe plastic deformation of a ...

Novel method for refinement of retained austenite in micro/nano-structured bainitic steels [PDF]
A comparative study was conducted to assess the effects of two different heat treatments on the amount and morphology of the retained austenite in a micro/nano-structured bainitic steel.

Quasiconvexity at the Boundary and the Nucleation of Austenite [PDF]
Motivated by experimental observations of H. Seiner et al., we study the nucleation of austenite in a single crystal of a CuAlNi shape-memory alloy stabilized as a single variant of martensite. In the experiments the nucleation process was induced by localized heating and it was observed that, regardless of where the localized heating was applied, the ...
