Microstructural characterization of AISI 431 martensitic stainless steel laser-deposited coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
High cooling rates during laser cladding of stainless steels may alter the microstructure and phase constitution of the claddings and consequently change their functional properties.

Mechanical Behavior and Microstructural Changes Associated with Tensile Deformation above the Martensite Start Temperature during Quenching and Subsequent Partitioning of a Low‐Alloy 37SiB6 Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new experimental setup, incorporating digital image correlation and infrared thermography in combination with inductive‐conductive heating for precise temperature control, is used to analyze the mechanical behavior and microstructural changes of sheet metal under complex thermomechanical test conditions that represent quench and partitioning ...

In situ observation of strain and phase transformation in plastically deformed 301 austenitic stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To inform the design of superior transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steels, it is important to understand what happens at the microstructural length scales.

High‐Temperature Oxidation of the CrFeNi Medium‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The oxidation behavior of equiatomic CrFeNi MEA is a key issue that determines this material's suitability for high‐temperature application. The understanding of long‐term behavior is even more crucial than short‐term corrosion effects. The alloy is exposed to synthetic air at 1000, 1050, and 1100 °C for 24, 100, and 1000 h and systematically compared ...

About the Memory of Transformation-Induced Plasticity in 35NCD16 Carbon Steel Subjected to Various Thermomechanical Histories

open access: yesMetals, 2021
This study deals with Transformation-Induced Plasticity (TRIP) observed in the martensitic transformation of 35NCD16 ferritic steel. In this study, TRIP tests were carried out for two different cases: First, after only free dilatometric (FD) tests, which

Austenite grain growth in alumina-forming austenitic steel – CORRIGENDUM [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research, 2016
In the original publication of “Austenite grain growth in alumina-forming austenitic steel,” the legends for the optical micrographs were missing for Fig. 2 and Fig. 3(a-h). The following are the corrected figures:

Influence of boron content on the fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation kinetics of bainitic steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The relatively good combination of high strength and ductility makes bainitic steels a candidate to replace many other steels in industrial applications. However, in service, ductility and strength are not up to standard requirements.

Residual Stress States in Microstructurally Graded PBF–LB/M Austenitic Steel Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines microstructurally graded 316L rectangular tube profiles fabricated via PBF–LB/M using a dual‐laser system. A 1 kW top‐hat and a 400 W Gaussian laser create distinct grain sizes and crystallographic texture. Mechanical properties are linked to microstructural evolution driven by processing conditions.

Austenite Formation in a Cold-Rolled Semi-austenitic Stainless Steel

open access: yesMetallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2013
The progress of the martensite (a¢) to austenite (c) phase transformation has been thoroughly investigated at different temperatures during the continuous heating of a cold-rolled precipitation hardening metastable stainless steel at a heating rate of 0.1 K/s.
