Modeling the effect of prior austenite grain size on bainite formation kinetics
While experiments show that refining the prior austenite grain size can either accelerate or decelerate bainite formation in steels, kinetic models based on the successive nucleation of bainitic ferrite subunits can only predict an acceleration. In this work we develop a physically-based model for bainite kinetics assuming a displacive growth mechanism

Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

A new study on the growth behavior of austenite grains during heating processes
In this paper, the effects of the heating temperature and holding time on the austenite grain growth of SCM435 steel were studied and analyzed in terms of the average, macro-axis and minor-axis size of the grains. The results indicated that the classical

The combined effect of chemical composition and cooling rate on transformation temperatures of hypoeutectoid steels [PDF]
The transformation temperatures A(r3) and A(r1) of four unalloyed hypoeutectoid steels with a carbon content of 0.029-0,73 % were determined using dilatometric tests.

Effect of cooling rate and forced convection on as-cast structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel [PDF]
To forecast the as-cast structure and ferrite-austenite phase ratio of 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS), the effects of cooling rate and forced convection were observed in a high-vacuum resistance furnace in which the forced convection was created by ...

Thin-slab cast direct-rolling (TSCDR) has become a major process for flat-rolled production. However, the elimination of slab reheating and limited number of thermomechanical deformation passes leave fewer opportunities for austenite grain refinement ...

A theoretical review of the operation of vibratory stress relief with particular reference to the stabilization of large-scale fabrications [PDF]
Vibratory stress relief (VSR) is widely used on large welded fabrications to stabilize the structures so that they do not distort during further machining or during operational duty.
