Strengthened microstructure and mechanical properties of austenitic 316L stainless steels by grain refinement and solute segregation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Strengthening conventional materials through additive manufacturing is generally understood to occur due to rapid cooling in the metallurgical process, which refines the microstructure by producing smaller grain sizes and segregating elements at specific

Analysis of Corrosion and Wall Perforation in the Heat Exchanger Made of AISI 316L Stainless Steel

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Elevated passivation temperature is identified as the dominant factor triggering localized corrosion and subsequent perforation of AISI 316L heat exchanger tubes. Electrochemical and complementary characterization results show that the alloy retains high resistance to general, pitting, and intergranular corrosion, indicating that failure primarily ...

Hydrogen‐Enhanced Stress Corrosion Cracking of Wire Arc Additive Manufactured Inconel 625 Superalloy in NaCl Solution: Mechanism of Synergistic Degradation

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Hydrogen‐enhanced SCC of WAAM Inconel 625 in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. Hydrogen charging reduces passive film stability (lower corrosion potential) and promotes pitting at Laves phase/matrix interfaces. Stress corrosion cracks propagate along Laves‐rich regions, leading to quasi‐cleavage brittle fracture.
