Effect of high-pressure rolling followed by laser processing on mechanical properties, microstructure and residual stress distribution in multi-pass welds of 304L stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Multi-pass fusion welding by a filler material (wire) is normally carried out to join thick steel sections used in most engineering applications. Multiple thermal cycles from a multi-pass weld resulted in a variable distribution of residual stress field ...

The influence of alloy composition on neutron irradiation swelling of austenitic stainless steel by deep neural network

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal
The main reason that restricts the increase of fast reactor burnup is the irradiation swelling of the cladding. The reported research shows that the main elements and trace alloy/impurity elements have a great influence on the irradiation swelling ...

Austenitic Stainless Steel Powders with Increased Nitrogen Content for Laser Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesMetals, 2019
Nitrogen is used as an alloying element, substituting the expensive and allergenic element nickel, in austenitic stainless steels to improve their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Tribo-corrosion of steel in artificial saliva [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Stainless steel is widely used as dental implant. However, there has been little work on the micro-abrasion of such materials in laboratory simulated oral environments, where abrasion, sliding wear can interact simultaneously.

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Effect of drawing and annealing on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 304 austenitic stainless steel wire

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2021
Plastic deformation at room temperature, and the proceeding heat treatments, are important processes for optimizing the microstructure and mechanical properties of austenitic stainless steel. The microstructure and mechanical properties of cold-drawn 304

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.
