Interdecadal modulation of Australian rainfall

Climate Dynamics, 2002
Interdecadal variability is investigated in a 300 year run of the Parallel Climate Model, a global coupled atmosphere-land-ocean-sea ice model. The model simulates El Nino variability of realistic magnitude and is found to produce interdecadal characteristics similar to those observed, both in frequency, spatial patterns and amplitude.

Road accidents and rainfall in a large Australian city

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2006
We investigate the impact of rainfall on daily road accidents in the metropolitan area of Melbourne, Australia, over 1987-2002. Our analysis from several viewpoints of the accident count, which has been normalised for variation in traffic volume, indicated that the effect of rainfall is multifaceted. Owing to a large non-linear trend a subdivision into

Some correlation studies of Australian rainfall.

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1953
Statistical relations between rainfall and other climatological elements described by earlier workers have been extended for different districts and stations, different time lags, and more recent data. The latter study shows that practically all the correlations have decreased considerably in magnitude.

Influence of SOI, DMI and Niño3.4 on South Australian rainfall

Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, 2013
The influences of climate drivers (SOI, DMI and Nino3.4) on South Australian (SA) rainfall are investigated in this study. Recent records of monthly rainfall and climate driver index values from 1981 to 2010 were analysed for 53 rainfall stations, located across eight SA natural resources management (NRM) regions.

Deuterium/hydrogen ratios in Australian rainfall

Journal of Hydrology, 1981
Abstract Correlations between meteorological data and the deuterium/hydrogen (D/H) ratios of monthly rainfall samples from fourteen Australian locations are given. The major factors influencing D/H ratios are the dew point and rainfall intensity. A model has been developed which is consistent with the data from these locations; the implications of ...

Australian rainfall trends during the twentieth century

International Journal of Climatology, 1992
AbstractA set of high‐quality rainfall records is used to examine rainfall trends over Australia during the twentieth century. The 191 stations used have been selected by an exhaustive search of documentation regarding instrumentation, observational practices, site relocations, and exposure.

El Niño Modoki Impacts on Australian Rainfall

Journal of Climate, 2009
Abstract This study investigates interseasonal and interevent variations in the impact of El Niño on Australian rainfall using available observations from the postsatellite era. Of particular interest is the difference in impact between classical El Niño events wherein peak sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies appear in the eastern ...

South Australian rainfall variability and climate extremes

Climate Dynamics, 2008
Rainfall extremes over South Australia are connected with broad-scale atmospheric rearrangements associated with strong meridional sea surface temperature (SST) gradients in the eastern Indian Ocean. Thirty-seven years of winter radiosonde data is used to calculate a time series of precipitable water (PW) and convective available potential energy (CAPE)

Stochastic Simulation of Daily Rainfall for Australian Stations

Transactions of the ASAE, 1983
ABSTRACT A model using transition probability matrices is developed to generate daily rainfall sequences for Australian conditions. The results of applying the model to twelve Australian stations indicate that the daily as well as monthly and annual parameters are preserved.
