Insect herbivores reduce plant biomass loss and enhance plant recovery in response to extreme drought. [PDF]
Abstract Plant species are responding to anthropogenic climate change by expanding their distributions to higher latitudes and altitudes. This is generating novel communities consisting of a mixture of range‐expanding and native plant species. These communities are increasingly subject to extreme droughts and are shaped by herbivory.

Monoterpenoids from Artemisia austriaca essential oil disrupt hormone-mediated reserve mobilization to suppress Avena fatua seed germination. [PDF]
Terpenoid compounds from the essential oil of Artemisia austriaca, particularly camphor and 1,8‐cineole, infiltrate seed tissues and impede the germination of Avena fatua (wild oat) seeds by disrupting gibberellic acid and abscisic acid levels, as well as inhibiting critical enzymes involved in starch, lipid and protein metabolism.

Zooming In: Assessing the Transferability of SDMs From Large to Small Spatial Extents. [PDF]
In this study, we trained ensemble SDMs for the seven native reptile species occurring in the Netherlands, and tested their predictive ability against independent occurrence data in 10 municipalities. We found that despite performing well at national extent, the ensemble SDMs showed poor to moderate performance at municipal level.

Ophidiomycosis Prevalence and Disease Ecology in a Natrix tessellata (Laurenti, 1768) Population From Northern Italy. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Fungal pathogens pose a growing threat to vertebrate biodiversity. In snakes, Ophidiomyces ophidiicola (Oo) has garnered particular concern, although its impact in Europe remains poorly understood. We conducted a season‐long, standardized survey of dice snakes (Natrix tessellata) along the northern shore of Lake Como (Italy) to quantify Oo and

Polyembryonic or Apomictic Seeds Enable Fig Trees to Establish New Populations Without Their Pollinating Wasps, a Case Observation in Ficus gasparriniana. [PDF]
Development of apomictic adventitious embry o in Ficus gasparriniana. Apomixis is a key reproductive strategy for F. gasparriniana, especially when pollination by fig wasps is limited. In the absence of pollination, F. gasparriniana produces seeds through adventitious embryos formed within the nucellar tissue, which is accompanied by polyploidization ...
