An autofocus technique for imaging microscopy

The authors present an automatic focus (autofocus) technique for imaging microscopy. The technique successfully finds the optimum focus position for large working distance/small depth of focus optics. High throughput is realized by a combination linear-to-nonlinear digital signal processing algorithm.

Enhancement of phase detection for autofocus

Phase detection autofocus (PDAF) is a technique that uses sensors on left and right pixels to determine the relative position between the object and the focal plane. When an image is out of focus, a shift between the assembled left and right pixels is resulted, which can be used to determine the lens movement during the autofocus process.

Abstract Autofocus and correction of astigmatism of a transmission electron microscope (TEM) based on measuring a beam-tilt-induced image displacement is proposed and its theoretical limitations are studied. Autofocus allows us to generate images with better quality by automatically adjusting the image focusing parameters. For radar imaging, autofocus means to automatically correct phase errors based on collected radar returns from targets. Inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) motion compensation includes range alignment and phase adjustment.
