Semi-Automatic Dataset Annotation Applied to Automatic Violent Message Detection

open access: yesIEEE Access
Annotated corpora are indispensable tools to train computational models in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing. However, manual annotation is a costly, arduous, and time-consuming task, especially when the annotation is semantically ...

Emotion-Aware, Emotion-Agnostic, or Automatic: Corpus Creation Strategies to Obtain Cognitive Event Appraisal Annotations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Appraisal theories explain how the cognitive evaluation of an event leads to a particular emotion. In contrast to theories of basic emotions or affect (valence/arousal), this theory has not received a lot of attention in natural language processing. Yet, in psychology it has been proven powerful: Smith and Ellsworth (1985) showed that the appraisal ...

Automatic Annotation of Structured Facts in Images [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 5th Workshop on Vision and Language, 2016
Motivated by the application of fact-level image understanding, we present an automatic method for data collection of structured visual facts from images with captions. Example structured facts include attributed objects (e.g., ), actions (e.g., ), interactions (e.g., ), and positional information (e.g., ).

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

The Ensembl Automatic Gene Annotation System [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Research, 2004
As more genomes are sequenced, there is an increasing need for automated first-pass annotation which allows timely access to important genomic information. The Ensembl gene-building system enables fast automated annotation of eukaryotic genomes. It annotates genes based on evidence derived from known protein, cDNA, and EST sequences.

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Modeling Loosely Annotated Images with Imagined Annotations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
In this paper, we present an approach to learning latent semantic analysis models from loosely annotated images for automatic image annotation and indexing. The given annotation in training images is loose due to: (1) ambiguous correspondences between visual features and annotated keywords; (2) incomplete lists of annotated keywords.

Collecting ground truth annotations for drum detection in polyphonic music [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In order to train and test algorithms that can automatically detect drum events in polyphonic music, ground truth data is needed. This paper describes a setup used for gathering manual annotations for 49 real-world music fragments containing different ...

The Long Term Effects of a 12‐Session Community Exercise Program on Health Measures in Cancer Patients

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To assess the long‐term effects of a community cancer exercise program on quality of life, fatigue, weight, waist circumference, physical activity levels, lower extremity strength, body mass index (BMI), heart rate, and blood pressure, across non‐metastatic and metastatic patients.

Comparison of manual, machine learning, and hybrid methods for video annotation to extract parental care data

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology
Measuring parental care behaviour in the wild is central to the study of animal ecology and evolution, but it is often labour‐ and time‐intensive. Efficient open‐source tools have recently emerged that allow animal behaviour to be quantified from videos ...
