Programmable GPS Receiver for Automatic Vehicle Location

2006 IEEE International Conference on Automation, Quality and Testing, Robotics, 2006
Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems are a very usefull tool for vehicle fleet management. The transport operators have the possibility to be informed about their vehicles locations. A dispatcher achieves voice and data communications with mobile terminals, installed on vehicles. The mobile terminals send their position data to the dispatcher.

Integrated automatic vehicle location systems

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 1997
The state-of-the-art transportation management system integrates automatic vehicle location, in-vehicle systems, customer information networks, and management information systems. As advanced technologies are integrated into transportation systems, the transit system becomes more efficient and reliable, which, in turn, makes it more attractive to users.

Regularity diagnosis by Automatic Vehicle Location raw data

Public Transport, 2012
Bus regularity is a crucial factor for high frequency public transport systems, because it represents a relevant measure of quality of service for both users and transit agencies. Low regularities for users are associated with bunching phenomena or large gaps between buses, which result in low attractiveness of the service for transit agencies ...

Multiobjective Model for Locating Automatic Vehicle Identification Readers

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2004
The problem of locating automatic vehicle identification (AVI) readers on a transportation network is one worth considering. AVI readers are strategically located to catch a maximum number of trips and cover a maximum number of origin-destination (O-D) pairs using a minimum number of AVI readers.

Automatic vehicle location system implementation

Proceedings of Position, Location and Navigation Symposium - PLANS '96, 2002
Since August, 1994 the Phoenix Fire Department's new computer-aided dispatch system has been making dispatch recommendations based on current unit locations. This has been made possible by tightly integrating an automatic vehicle location (AVL) system with the dispatch system.

Dynamic OD estimation using Automatic Vehicle Location information

2011 6th IEEE Joint International Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Conference, 2011
OD (Origin-Destination) matrix describes the number of vehicles from origin zones to destination zones. Dynamic OD is an essential input for traffic guidance and traffic control strategies of intelligent transport system (ITS). As the development of Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) technologies, advanced devices such as GPS, RFID etc. have been used in

Fleet management with automatic vehicle location

36th IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 1986
A dispatcher can improve a fleet's productivity by knowing where each vehicle in the fleet is located. This productivity gain is independent of whether reduced fleet costs, increased tonnage capacity, safe delivery of secure cargo or less down time due to distracted drivers is management's goal.
