Fine Grained Robotics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Fine grained robotics is the idea of solving problems utilizing multitudes of very simple machines in place of one large complex entity. Organized in the proper way, simple machines and simple behaviors can lead to emergent solutions.

Periodic and Statistically Distributed Surface Texturing of Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) Sensors with Spatially Selective Signal Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, Volume 5, Issue 3, March 2026.
Molecular fingerprinting for the detection of biomolecules is highly sensitive and noninvasive through the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect. This is a report on the commercially competitive performance of gold‐coated periodic structures and black Si (aperiodic) nanostructures as plasmonic SERS substrates.

Iterative Mold Adaptation for Pre‐Compensation of Warpage in Aluminum Casting

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT As a result of uneven cooling and internal stresses, warpage is a significant challenge in metal casting, particularly when using metal dies. Previous research has sought to reduce warpage by adjusting process parameters, such as the extraction temperature.

Photonic Unitary Circuits for Quantum Information Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2026.
Unitary transformations are the cornerstone of quantum computing, enabling reversible manipulation of quantum states. This review evaluates photonic waveguide architectures as an evolving solution for quantum computing, exploiting the unique properties of photons. It investigates current theoretical frameworks, material platforms, and design strategies.

AI‐powered skill classification: mapping technology intensity in the German labour market

open access: yesFiscal Studies, Volume 47, Issue 1, Page 25-51, March 2026.
Abstract The rapid evolution of technology is reshaping labour markets by altering skill demands and job profiles. This paper introduces a novel skill‐based measure of occupational technology intensity – the occupational technology skill share (OTSS) – that distinguishes between manual, digital and frontier technologies, including artificial ...

Rheocasting versus Die Casting: An Insight into the Low‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior of AlSi7Mg0.6

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 4, 18 February 2026.
The study compares rheocast lightweight components with high‐pressure die cast materials regarding microstructure and fatigue behavior. Rheocast process offers higher efficiency due to lower casting temperatures. Despite some microstructural differences, both processes show similar strengths (yield strength 125 MPa, tensile strength 240 MPa).
