Marihuana and Automobile Driving
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1972To the Editor.— The report in INTERNATIONAL COMMENTS (220:139, 1972) pertaining to the adverse influence of marihuana on driving exemplifies a problem which has been minimized in the discussions over legalization of the drug. In the above report, emanating from West Germany, test subjects had marked deterioration in driving ability after having smoked

Automobile Driving With Telescopic Aids
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1980To the Editor. —My previous letter (Archives1980;98:930) drew attention to the difficulty of correlating medical or visual impairments and automobile driving safety. I pointed out errors in the accident statistics of telescope-restricted drivers in New York State.

Mathematical biology of automobile driving
The Bulletin of Mathematical Biophysics, 1967Continuing a previous study (Bull. Math. Biophysics, 28, 645–654, 1966), the biophysical mechanism of a corrective turn is investigated for the case where the stimulus for the corrective turn is produced not only by the perception of the nearness of an edge of the lane, but also by the rate of approach of the car towards the edge.

The Construction of an Autonomously Driving Automobile
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2004Abstract In this paper we discuss the modifications made to a standard automobile in order to enable autonomous maneuvering. The configuration is tested by means of a parallel parking procedure. The control architecture consists of an off-line trajectory planner and a real-time motion controller.

Automobile driving as psychophysical discrimination
The Bulletin of Mathematical Biophysics, 1962The driver tries to keep the car in the center of the lane. If the car is too near the left edge, this causes the driver to make a “corrective” right turn. If the car is near the right edge, a “corrective” left turn is made. Therefore, a quantity which decreases with increasing distance ΔL from the left edge may be considered as a stimulusSR producing ...

A New Driving Assistant for Automobiles
2007 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2007This paper introduces an inexpensive car security system which addresses the needs for broader area coverage around the vehicle and stronger indication signals to drivers. The new driving assistant features simple ultrasonic-based sensors, implemented at the two front corners and the two blind spots of the vehicle.

Perceptual Dysfunction in Hemiplegia and Automobile Driving
The Gerontologist, 1991Sixteen post-stroke, hemiplegic patients, who requested that they be allowed to return to driving, were extensively evaluated by a physiatrist, psychologist, occupational therapist, and driver training specialist. After they completed a driver training program, the patients were divided into three groups based on their driving program success and ...

Simulation of Test-drives of Automobiles at Driving Limit
2003This project has been carried out in cooperation with the Volkswagen AG at Wolfsburg/Germany. The scope of the project is the computer-aided simulation of test-drives of an automobile at driving limit. Today the development of a new automotive model is a very expensive process.
