Autonomic Stimulation

Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 1991
Therapeutic stimulation of the autonomic nervous system has been limited by Jack of qualitative or quantitative evaluation of autonomic mechanisms. This article provides an historical review of knowledge about autonomic pathways and critical evaluation of available tests of autonomic function.

The Autonomous Heart in Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1976
When autonomic neuropathy involving the cardiovascular system of a diabetic patient is manifested by postural hypotension, it is easily recognizable. Much less obvious and less well known is the effect of the neuropathy on the regulation of the heart rate. That this effect may be striking could be surmised from animal experiments 1 and, more important,

Control of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems

Proceedings of the Fourth International Workshop on Robot Motion and Control (IEEE Cat. No.04EX891), 2004
This brief paper outlines several test-beds at Cornell University used for research in control of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems. In this paper we discuss four test-beds, and the key research questions associated with these test-beds: an autonomous flying vehicle, a formation flight experiment, and the Cornell RoboCup and RoboFlag projects.

The Autonomous Viking

Science, 1983
The two Viking spacecraft launched to Mars in 1975 were designed for 90 days of intense observations followed by an extended mission phase to end in 1978. Because the spacecraft were still operating so well in 1978, three more mission phases were added and the project was not officially terminated until 1980.

"On autonomous agents"

Proceedings. Fourth International Symposium on Autonomous Decentralized Systems. - Integration of Heterogeneous Systems -, 2005
The last two years literature witnesses an explosion of contributions on agent systems and technologies. It seems that research and development in this field is hype, papers describe systems which are intelligent, mobile, autonomous and/or any other combination of these attributes.

Autonomic economics

IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce, 2003. CEC 2003., 2003
Autonomic systems take decisions independent of human administrators and hide much system complexity when they do signal for intervention. Furthermore, they are expected to interact with their environment in an autonomous way, even beyond the boundaries of an individual organization. Autonomic systems will offer their capabilities as services partially

Autonomous boids

Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds, 2006
AbstractThe classical work of bird‐like objects of Reynolds simulates polarized motion of groups of oriented particles, bird‐like objects, or simply boids. To do this, three steering vectors are introduced. Cohesion is the tendency of boids to stay in the center of the flock, alignment smoothes their velocities to similar values, and separation helps ...

Autonomic Neuropathies

Continuum, 2014
This article focuses on the most prevalent forms of autonomic neuropathies, but also discusses conditions such as focal and dysfunctional syndromes (altered autonomic function in the absence of structural lesions). The goal of this review is to allow the reader to promptly recognize these disorders, identify potentially reversible or treatable causes ...

The Autonomic Laboratory

American Journal of Electroneurodiagnostic Technology, 1999
The autonomic nervous system can now be studied quantitatively, noninvasively, and reproducibly in a clinical autonomic laboratory. The approach at the Mayo Clinic is to study the postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers of peripheral nerve (using the quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test [QSART]), the parasympathetic nerves to the heart (cardiovagal ...
