A Molecularly Defined Medullary Network for Control of Respiratory Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The dynamic interplay between central respiratory chemoreceptors and the respiratory central pattern generator is essential for maintaining stable respiratory rhythm and patterns, particularly during sleep. This study offers novel insights into the anatomical, molecular, and functional characteristics of a medullary network involving the nucleus ...

A Mathematical Model for Skin Sympathetic Nerve Activity Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Autonomic nervous system is important for cardiac function regulation. Modeling of autonomic cardiac regulation can contribute to health tracking and disease management. This study proposed a mathematical model that simulates autonomic cardiac regulation response to Valsalva Maneuver, which is a commonly used test that provokes the autonomic nervous ...

Genomic Insights into Post‐Domestication Expansion and Selection of Body Size in Ponies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The authors’ research delves into the history of ponies by assembling a pony genome and integrating horse genomes. This unveils genetic connections between Asian and European pony breeds. Cis‐regulatory elements of key genes impacting body size are also identified.

Nitric Oxide Inhibits the Bradykinin B2 Receptor-Mediated Adrenomedullary Catecholamine Release but Has No Effect on Adrenal Blood Flow Response In Vivo

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2005
The role of nitric oxide (NO) in bradykinin (BK)-induced adrenal catecholamine secretion still remains obscure. The present study was to investigate whether an inhibition of NO synthase with Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) would modulate BK ...

Mathematical models of cardiovascular control by the autonomic nervous system [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
This PhD thesis develops an integrated mathematical model for autonomic nervous system control on cardiovascular activity. The model extensively covers cardiovascular neural pathways including a wide range of afferent sensory neurons, central processing by autonomic premotor neurons, efferent outputs via preganglionic and postganglionic autonomic ...

Revealing the Transcriptional and Metabolic Characteristics of Sebocytes Based on the Donkey Cell Transcriptome Atlas

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, a comprehensive single‐cell transcriptome atlas of the Dezhou donkey, encompassing 20 tissues and 275 050 cells, is constructed. Through cross‐species and cross‐tissue analyses, distinct transcriptional patterns in donkey sebocytes are identified.

Atypicality for Heart Rate Variability Using a Pattern-Tree Weighting Method [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Heart rate variability (HRV) is a vital measure of the autonomic nervous system functionality and a key indicator of cardiovascular condition. This paper proposes a novel method, called pattern tree which is an extension of Willem's context tree to real-valued data, to investigate HRV via an atypicality framework.

Engineering the Immune Response to Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper reviews immune responses to biomaterials, stages of evolution in relation to managing these responses ranging from preventing to modulating them. It also discusses state‐of‐the‐art strategies to modulate these responses and modes of their delivery.

Effect of combined aerobic exercise and resistance training on postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesGynecological Endocrinology
Background There is no strong evidence demonstrating whether or not aerobic exercise in conjunction with resistance exercise improves metabolic diabetes markers in postmenopausal women. Objective To evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise and resistance ...
