Assessing Recreational Safety of Urban Marine Waters: Long‐Term Coliform and Enterococcus Analysis

open access: yesWater Environment Research, Volume 98, Issue 4, April 2026.
Mapped data (site means) representing three major indicator bacteria in Jamaica Bay, New York, from 1965 to 2019 which can impact human and environmental health, highlighting elevated TCC and FCC in the northern estuary compared with EC. Enterococcus values (EC, green circles ) total coliform count (TCC, blue squares ) and fecal coliform count (FCC ...

Astrocyte Proximity Protects Synapses From Human Amyloid‐Beta Induced Degeneration in a Mouse Ex Vivo Model of Early Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 7, April 2026.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, affecting over 35 million people worldwide. A key feature of AD is the loss of synapses—the connections between brain cells—which strongly correlates with cognitive decline. We sought to investigate the role of astrocytes in mouse organotypic cultures challenged with brain homogenate (BH ...

Remote Sensing of Endogenous Pigmentation by Inducible Synthetic Circuits in Grasses

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2244-2259, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Plant synthetic biology holds great promise for engineering plants to meet future demands. Genetic circuits are being designed, built and tested in plants to demonstrate the proof of concept. However, developing these components in monocots, which the world relies on for grain, lags behind dicot models, such as Arabidopsis thaliana and ...

Evaluating the possible role of bottom currents and internal waves in shaping seafloor morphology in a mesophotic reef

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 3, Page 593-619, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Mesophotic reefs are located in low light conditions which, depending on the region, are usually found in water depths greater than ~30 m. They are less affected by ocean warming than reefs found in shallower water depths and thus might become increasingly important for the sustainability of marine biodiversity.

Variations in downslope activity and bottom current dynamics in a land‐detached submarine channel system since the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 3, Page 620-644, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The Gollum Channel System is a land‐detached large‐scale canyon‐channel system situated offshore southwest Ireland on the Northeast Atlantic margin. The system has been considered inactive with downslope gravity flows since the last glacial period, but geophysical data in some of its branches do suggest Holocene activity.
