Design of a monitoring program to advance nightjar conservation along the Atlantic Flyway

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
We examined differences in estimates of occupancy of nightjars in the Atlantic Flyway, determined number of nightjar‐specific survey routes required to estimate nightjar abundance, and developed a statistically defensible distribution of survey routes.

ECG‐TransCovNet: A hybrid transformer model for accurate arrhythmia detection using Electrocardiogram signals

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Abnormalities in the heart's rhythm, known as arrhythmias, pose a significant threat to global health, often leading to severe cardiac conditions and sudden cardiac deaths. Therefore, early and accurate detection of arrhythmias is crucial for timely intervention and potentially life‐saving treatment.

A demonstration trajectory segmentation approach for wheelchair‐mounted assistive robots

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Segmentation of demonstration trajectories and learning the contained motion primitives can effectively enhance the assistive robot's intelligence to flexibly reproduce learnt tasks in an unstructured environment. With the aim to conveniently and accurately segment demonstration trajectories, a novel demonstration trajectory segmentation ...

A novel transformer health state direct prediction method based on knowledge and data fusion‐driven model

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
Abstract Predicting the future health state of a transformer can offer early warning of latent defects and faults within the transformer, thereby facilitating the formulation of power outage maintenance plans and power dispatch strategies. However, existing prediction methods based on the structure of ‘splicing prediction and diagnosis method’ suffer ...

Technical indicator enhanced ultra‐short‐term wind power forecasting based on long short‐term memory network combined XGBoost algorithm

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, EarlyView.
An increasing penetration of renewable energy has brought unprecedented uncertainty to today's grid, and properly scheduled reserve is a key to accommodate the intermittency and volatility of renewable energy. In this manuscript, the authors propose a new method for ultra‐short‐term wind power forecasting based on the long short‐term memory network ...

An integrated prediction model based on meta ensemble learning for short‐term wind speed forecasting

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, EarlyView.
Considering the fluctuation and randomness of wind speed, a new integrated forecasting model is proposed for short‐term wind speed forecasting (WSF). The meta ensemble learning algorithm in this model can automatically adjust the coefficient of each base predictor to achieve optimal forecasting accuracy.

Energy Market Uncertainties and Gold Return Volatility: A GARCH–MIDAS Approach

open access: yesAustralian Economic Papers, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, the GARCH–MIDAS model is utilized to evaluate how predictable oil and energy market uncertainties are in relation to gold return volatility. We examine daily gold returns and monthly energy uncertainty measurements such as oil market uncertainty (OMU) and oil price uncertainty (OPU), as well as measurements of energy market ...

Disentangling Timing Uncertainty of Event‐Driven Connectedness Among Oil‐Based Energy Commodities

open access: yesAustralian Economic Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Reported news events frequently influence the pricing dynamics of oil‐based commodities. We analyse almost 900 oil‐related events from 1987 to 2022, categorising them based on recurring characteristics. We quantify dynamic connectedness among energy commodities and apply a novel bootstrap‐after‐bootstrap testing procedure to identify 21 ...

Democracies use more renewable energy

open access: yesNatural Resources Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract In his groundbreaking study titled ‘Democracies Pay Higher Wages’, Rodrik emphasized that democracies provide higher wage levels. So, can democracies also be functional in solving other problems that benefit society? In recent years, the aggravation of the environmental crisis has made the use of renewable energy more important. Although there
