Geometric auxetics [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2015
We formulate a mathematical theory of auxetic behavior based on one-parameter deformations of periodic frameworks. Our approach is purely geometric, relies on the evolution of the periodicity lattice and works in any dimension.

Core Spun Based Helical Auxetic Yarn: A Novel Structure for Wearable Protective Textiles

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2022
Textile auxetic materials with negative Poisson’s ratio (NPR) have potential applications in protective textile, filtration, and energy absorbance. However, cotton core-spun based auxetic textile is rarely investigated.

Universal Negative Poisson Ratio of Self Avoiding Fixed Connectivity Membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We determine the Poisson ratio of self-avoiding fixed-connectivity membranes, modeled as impenetrable plaquettes, to be sigma=-0.37(6), in statistical agreement with the Poisson ratio of phantom fixed-connectivity membranes sigma=-0.32(4).

Capability of auxetic femoral stems to reduce stress shielding after total hip arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Translation, 2023
Background: Stress shielding (SS) is considered the main mechanical cause of femoral stem loosening after total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study introduces an auxetic lattice femoral stem structure with negative Poisson's ratio that can expand ...

Explicit parametric solutions of lattice structures with proper generalized decomposition (PGD): applications to the design of 3D-printed architectured materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00466-017-1534-9Architectured materials (or metamaterials) are constituted by a unit-cell with a complex structural design repeated periodically forming a bulk material with ...

Constructing an overall dynamical model for a system with changing design parameter properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This study considers the identification problem for a class of non-linear parameter-varying systems associated with the following scenario: the system behaviour depends on some specifically prescribed parameter properties, which are adjustable.

A 2D metamaterial with auxetic out-of-plane behavior and non-auxetic in-plane behavior

open access: yes, 2017
Customarily, in-plane auxeticity and synclastic bending behavior (i.e. out-of-plane auxeticity) are not independent, being the latter a manifestation of the former. Basically, this is a feature of three-dimensional bodies.

New examples of three-dimensional dilational materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Two-dimensional dilational materials, for which the only easy mode of deformation is a dilation are reviewed and connections are drawn between models previously proposed in the literature. Some models which appear to be dilational materials, but which in

Auxetic two-dimensional lattice with Poisson's Ratio arbitrarily close to -1

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we propose a new lattice structure having macroscopic Poisson's ratio arbitrarily close to the stability limit -1. We tested experimentally the effective Poisson's ratio of the micro-structured medium; the uniaxial test has been performed ...

Deformation mechanisms leading to auxetic behaviour in the α-cristobalite and α-quartz structures of both silica and germania [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Analytical expressions have been developed in which the elastic behaviour of the α-quartz and α-cristobalite molecular tetrahedral frameworks of both silica and germania are modelled by rotation, or dilation or concurrent rotation and dilation of the ...
