Auxetic MEMS sensor

Sensors and Smart Structures Technologies for Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace Systems 2020, 2020
In this paper, an auxetic design is proposed for the flexible membrane of a piezoelectric pulse sensor and computationally analyzed for a high-sensitivity vibration sensing in micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS). Auxetics are metamaterial structures with negative Poisson’s ratio which enables sensor’s flexible diaphragm to be expanded in both ...

Auxetic polypropylene films

Polymer Engineering & Science, 2005
Abstract Auxetic materials are those exhibiting negative Poisson's ratio (ν) behavior. Polymeric auxetic extruded products in the form of cylinders and fibers have previously been reported. This article reports the successful production of auxetic polypropylene films (∼0.15‐mm thick) using a melt extrusion process.

Stoneley waves in auxetics and non-auxetics: Wiechert case

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2020
An interesting phenomenon observed in auxetics (materials with negative Poisson’s ratio) relates to appearing anomalous velocity intersections of the interfacial Stoneley waves at varying acoustic ...

Periodic tetrahedral auxetic metamaterial

Extreme Mechanics Letters
In this work, we introduce a novel three-dimensional auxetic mechanical metamaterial consisting of rotating tetrahedra connected by ideal hinges at their vertices, arranged to form a periodic framework structure. Through analytical and kinematic approaches, we evaluated the deformation behavior of the proposed idealized model, revealing Poisson’s ...

Auxetic Materials

This report examines auxetic materials which are designed to have a negative Poisson’s ratio. Thismeans they expand sideways when stretched. This unusual behaviour provides unique mechanicaladvantages, such as better resistance to indentation, improved toughness against fractures, andbeneficial synclastic curvature, which aids in uniform bending.

Spherical Auxetic Shells

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Materials that exhibit negative Poissons ratio are called auxetic materials. Although such materials are quite rare, they nevertheless exist as naturally occurring materials and artificially made materials. Due to their unique material properties, auxetic materials have been intensively investigated for the past 20 years.

Thin Auxetic Plates

2020
This chapter considers shear deformation in transversely loaded thick plates—such as rectangular plates, equilateral triangular plates, isosceles right triangular plates, hexagonal plates, and regular polygonal plates—with special emphasis on the effect of auxeticity on their performances and the use of Reddy plate theory to extract the shear ...
