Two nature-mimicking auxetic materials with potential for high energy absorption
Materials Today, 2019We introduce a new type of auxetic material with ultrahigh strength and ductility that mimics the crystal structures of two natural solids: α-cristobalite and LaNiO3/SrTiO3 superlattice (or ABO3 perovskite).

Auxetic mechanics of crystalline materials
Mechanics of Solids, 2010In the present paper, we analyze uniaxial deformation of crystals of different systems with negative Poisson’s ratios, known as auxetics. The behavior of auxetic crystals is studied on the basis of extensive knowledge on the experimental values of elastic constants of different crystals, gathered in the well-known Landolt-Bornstein tables.

Three-dimensional auxetic materials with controllable thermal expansion
Smart materials and structures (Print), 2020Thermal expansion and stress of solid materials can significantly affect structural safety and instrument accuracy in many engineering fields. An alternative way to overcome these drawbacks is to use materials with controllable coefficients of thermal ...

Journal of Sandwich Structures & Materials
This study aimed to improve the energy absorption capabilities of auxetic structures, which are used in sandwich structures in engineering. To achieve this, the study used a combination of CFRP and aluminum materials in a hybrid double arrow-head auxetic

Auxetic Cellular Materials and Structures
Aerospace, 2005Auxetic materials and structures exhibit the very unusual property of becoming wider when stretched and narrower when squashed (i.e. they have a negative ‘Poisson’s ratio’). This property results in many beneficial effects in the characteristics of the system that make auxetics superior to conventional systems in many practical and high tech ...

A review on various aspects of auxetic materials
, 2019Auxetic materials are a kind of special category material which has negative Poisson’s ratio, exhibit varied features depending on their structure. Discovered mainly after 1980s, a new branch of materials has been emerged after the advent of this concept.

Damping in auxetic materials and structures.
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010Negative Poisson’s ratio (NPR) (otherwise called auxetics) materials and structures feature enhanced energy absorption under cyclic loading both at low- and high-frequency excitations. We show in this paper experimental and simulation results related to open cell PU-PE foams, honeycombs, and composites, all exhibiting a negative Poisson’s ratio value ...

Micromechanical Models for Auxetic Materials
2014This chapter provides a survey of micromechanical models that seek to predict and explain auxetic behavior, based on re-entrant microstructures, nodule-fibril microstructure, 3D tethered-nodule model, rotating squares , rectangles, triangles and tetrahedrals models, hard cyclic hexamers model, missing rib models , chiral and anti-chiral models ...
