Mixed auxeticity of auxetic sandwich structures

physica status solidi (b), 2012
AbstractPreviously, a sandwich structure in which the Poisson ratios of the core and facesheets possess opposite signs has been shown to exhibit overall conventional and auxetic behavior depending on the loading mode – axial loading or bending – for an intermediate range of relative core thickness.

Auxetic Cellular Materials and Structures

Aerospace, 2005
Auxetic materials and structures exhibit the very unusual property of becoming wider when stretched and narrower when squashed (i.e. they have a negative ‘Poisson’s ratio’). This property results in many beneficial effects in the characteristics of the system that make auxetics superior to conventional systems in many practical and high tech ...

Auxetic metamaterials and structures: a review

Smart Materials and Structures, 2018
Materials and structures with negative Poisson's ratio exhibit a counter-intuitive behaviour. Under uniaxial compression (tension), these materials and structures contract (expand) transversely. The materials and structures that possess this feature are also termed as 'auxetics'.

Development of spiral auxetic structures

Composite Structures, 2018
Abstract An auxetic tow or fiber bundle that will expand in diameter when extended axially would be very useful. It could be woven into a shape-changing cloth, perhaps used for ballistic protection , or as an easily cleaned filter. To explore this concept, spiral fiber bundle structures under tension were explored. Theory describing the geometry of

Damping in auxetic materials and structures.

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010
Negative Poisson’s ratio (NPR) (otherwise called auxetics) materials and structures feature enhanced energy absorption under cyclic loading both at low- and high-frequency excitations. We show in this paper experimental and simulation results related to open cell PU-PE foams, honeycombs, and composites, all exhibiting a negative Poisson’s ratio value ...

Crush behaviour of auxetic cellular structures

Science and Technology of Materials, 2018
Abstract The auxetic cellular structures build from inverted tetrapods were fabricated and experimentally tested using uniaxial compression tests in two orthogonal directions. Based on experimental results, the computational models using homogenised material model were developed and validated in LS-DYNA. Furthermore, the computational models based on

Conventional and Auxetic SMA Cellular Structures

Aerospace, 2005
This work illustrates the manufacturing and tensile testing of a novel concept of honeycomb structures with hexagonal and auxetic (negative Poisson’s ratio) topology, made of shape memory alloy (SMA) core material. The honeycombs are manufactured using Nitinol ribbons having 6.40 mm of width and 0.2 mm of thickness.

Auxetic Structures Analysis: Exploratory Study on Auxetic Materials in Additive Manufacturing

Ibero-Latin American Congress on Computational Methods in Engineering (CILAMCE)
Auxetic structures have aroused significant interest in the scientific community due to their unique properties of lateral expansion when subjected to tensile forces, and transverse deformation when subjected to negative Poisson's ratio. This article offers an analysis of these structures, where the theoretical foundations of the negative Poisson's ...

Fatigue response of auxetic structures: A review

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures
AbstractThe fatigue behavior of auxetic metamaterials is an interesting and recent research topic that will deserve future attention. How different geometries can interact with cyclic loadings is still an open question for these kinds of structures.
