ZVT boost converter using a ZCS auxiliary circuit

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2001
A soft switching boost converter with zero-voltage transition (ZVT) main switch using zero-current switching (ZCS) auxiliary switch is proposed. Operating intervals of the converter are presented and analyzed. Design considerations are discussed. A design example with experimental results obtained from a 600 W, 100 kHz, 380 V output, power factor ...

80kw auxiliary converter for railway applications

2014
This paper presents a three phase dual active bridge(DAB) topology as the most convenient topology for high power-density DC/DC converters for railway applications. The three-phase DAB is analyzed concerning the current modes, output power and soft-switching region, including the effect of zerovoltage switching(ZVS) capacitors. Furthermore, two methods

The use of IGBT's in auxiliary converters

IEE Half-Day Colloquium on Power Electronics in Traction, 1997
Developments in IGBT power electronic devices have allowed the design, manufacture and cost of auxiliary converters to be significantly reduced. Other advantages include reduced maintenance costs, reduced audible noise and less heavy equipment. All these factors are viewed by the rail industry as distinct advantages as they lead to cheaper, more ...

Snubber circuits for an Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole converter with auxiliary thyristors

2017 19th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'17 ECCE Europe), 2017
In this work, four different snubber solutions for an Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole (ARCP) converter with an auxiliary thyristor are evaluated. The first two solutions are an RC snubber and a variation thereoff where the RC snubber losses are reduced by employing diodes for limiting the voltage overshoot. Two other concepts are a novel lossless dV/

Auxiliary power supplies for high voltage converter systems

2004 IEEE 35th Annual Power Electronics Specialists Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37551), 2004
Almost all power electronic conversion systems require an auxiliary power supply to energize their control electronics. Two alternatives are commonplace-either a low frequency AC transformer/rectifier/regulator combination supplied separately to the main converter system, or a high frequency switched mode power supply (SMPS) supplied from the DC bus of

A Zero-Current-Transition Converter with Reduced Auxiliary Circuit Losses

INTELEC 05 - Twenty-Seventh International Telecommunications Conference, 2005
A new zero-current-switching (ZCS) pulsewidth-modulated (PWM) boost converter is proposed in this paper. The converter's main power switch can operate with ZCS due to an active auxiliary circuit that diverts current away from the switch just before it is turned off.

High-voltage tapped-inductor buck converter auxiliary power supply for cascaded converter submodules

2012 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2012
This paper firstly presents a discussion of the requirements for an auxiliary power supply for high-power modular multilevel converter submodules. Next, some of the most challenging problems in designing a low power high voltage step-down converter are presented.

Auxiliary series resonant converter: a new converter for high-voltage, high-power applications

Proceedings of Applied Power Electronics Conference. APEC '96, 2002
The power converter presented in this paper has been designed to meet high-quality power requirements in high-voltage, high-power applications such as X-ray imaging, traveling wave tube RF generation, etc. The new power converter is based on a series resonant power converter (SRC) which is modified by adding low power auxiliary circuitry.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUXILIARY ELECTRODE THERMIONIC CONVERTER

1962
Abstract : The program covered in this report includes the development of a cylindrical converter which em ploys an emitter thermally bonded to, but elec trically insulated from, a central heat source tubing suitable for liquid metal heating. This converter was designed, fabricated, and tested to a power level in excess of one watt per sq. cm.
