Overburden dependent AVA inversion
Geophysics, 2010Abstract Amplitude-variation-with-offset (AVO) analysis is strongly dependent on interpretation of the estimated traveltime parameters. In practice, we can estimate two or three traveltime parameters that require interpretation within the families of two- or three-parameter velocity models, respectively. Increasing the number of model

Postmigration processing for AVA inversion
The Leading Edge, 2003This paper demonstrates the importance of postprocessing the migrated images in amplitude versus angle (AVA) inversion analysis on prestack depth-migrated data. In so-called “kinematic” processing where only the traveltimes are used (NMO, DMO, prestack time or depth migration), the amplitude of the recorded signal is corrected by estimating the decay ...

Time-Lapse Seismic Difference-and-Joint Prestack AVA Inversion
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2021Time-lapse (4-D) seismic exploration is one of the essential means for accurately reconstructing the underground geological model, enhancing oil/gas recovery (EOR), and predicting remaining oil distribution. Under the assumption that the rock skeleton is almost unchanged in the process of development, inversion of time-lapse seismic difference data can

Methods for Blocky Seismic AVA Inversion
70th EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2008, 2008This paper presents a statistical inversion scheme that aims at the enhancement of layer boundaries in seismic AVA inversion. By employing a Cauchy norm to the gradients of the model parameters we are inverting for, we are able to enforce a sparse distribution of these gradients and thereby achieving sharper boundaries in the inverted data.

Post migration processing for AVA inversion
66th EAGE Conference and Exhibition - Workshops, 2004Preserved amplitude prestack depth migration (ray Kirchhoff) gives a quantitative estimation of the reflection coefficient as a function of offset or angle of incidence. Associated with a robust AVA inversion, we are able to provide reliable information in the depth domain for subsequent reservoir characterization.

Simultaneous AVA Stochastic Inversion of Seismic Data
Proceedings, 2008We consider an efficient AVA stochastic inversion algorithm which performs inversion of equal angle offset volumes to volumes of Vp, Vs and density. Exact solution of Zoeppritz equations is used in order to determine reflection coefficients. Using combination of Simulated Annealing and Metropolis-Hasting sampler, we generate a set of equiprobable high-

AVO and AVA inversion for fractured reservoir characterization
Geophysics, 2002Abstract Seismic wave reflection amplitudes are used to detect fluids and fracture properties in reservoirs. This paper studies the characterization of a vertically fractured fluid-filled reservoir by analyzing the reflection amplitudes of P-waves with varying incident and azimuthal angles.

Prestack AVA inversion for pore fluid modulus
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2014, 2014Summary Seismic fluid discrimination plays an important role in geophysical exploration. Pore fluid modulus is an extremely sensitive fluid indicator. It is significant to estimate this parameter in seismic scale. Based on the poroelastic theory, a linearized approximation of Zoeppritz equations containing the pore fluid modulus is derived.

Nonlinear AVA Inversion Based on Bayesian Theory for VTI Media
82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, 2021Summary For shale reservoirs with VTI anisotropy characteristic, the inversion methods based on linear approximate formulas are commonly used to estimate the elastic parameters and anisotropy parameters. However, the calculation accuracy of linear formulas is low, which limits the estimation accuracy of these parameters.

Geostatistical Seismic Shale Rock Physics AVA Inversion
Petroleum Geostatistics 2019, 2019Summary The main goal of reservoir characterization is the description of the subsurface rock properties (i.e. porosity, volume of minerals and fluid saturations). This is commonly done in a sequential, two-step, approach: elastic properties are inferred from seismic inversion, which are then used to compute rock properties by applying calibrated rock ...
