Feedback-assisted robust estimation of available bandwidth

Computer Networks, 2009
The packet pair technique is a widely used method for estimating the available bandwidth of an end-to-end network path. We characterize the stochastic nature of the packet pair dispersion caused by bursty cross traffic and its adverse effect on available bandwidth estimation.

Bridging the bandwidth gap

Proceedings of the 29th annual ACM SIGUCCS conference on User services - SIGUCCS '01, 2001
With ever-increasing bandwidth requirements due to bandwidth-intensive applications such as Napster, Gnutella, Audiogalaxy, various Internet games and so forth, we were faced with determining how to bridge the gap between the amount of bandwidth we provided to our clients and the amount our clients consumed in meeting their individual needs and desires.

Network Independent Available Bandwidth Sampling and Measurement

2003
Available bandwidth knowledge is very useful to network protocols. Unfortunately, available bandwidth is also very difficult to measure in packet networks, where methods to guarantee and keep track of the bandwidth (eg, weighted fair queuing scheduling) do not work well, for example the Internet. In this paper we are dealing with an available bandwidth

Empirical Evaluation of Techniques for Measuring Available Bandwidth

IEEE INFOCOM 2007 - 26th IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications, 2007
The ability to measure end-to-end available bandwidth (AB) on a network path is useful in several domains, including overlay-routing infrastructure, network monitoring, and design of transport protocols. Several tools have, consequently, been proposed to estimate end-to-end AB.

NEPRI: available bandwidth measurement in IP networks

2000 IEEE International Conference on Communications. ICC 2000. Global Convergence Through Communications. Conference Record, 2000
To provide a consistent quality of service in IP networks, it is necessary to know the current performance and available bandwidth of the network adequately. There are some ways to obtain the current available bandwidth such as management information base (MIB) analysis and RMON monitoring. The measurement methods using probing packets are studied, but

On the estimation of available bandwidth in broadband cellular networks

2014 Eleventh Annual IEEE International Conference on Sensing, Communication, and Networking (SECON), 2014
Over-the-top estimation of available bandwidth (AB) in a network path has been well studied for wired networks. The AB of a path denotes its slack capacity, i.e., the bandwidth available for use in the path without impacting the existing traffic.

Performance of the GFR-service with constant available bandwidth

IEEE INFOCOM '99. Conference on Computer Communications. Proceedings. Eighteenth Annual Joint Conference of the IEEE Computer and Communications Societies. The Future is Now (Cat. No.99CH36320), 1999
The ATM Forum defined the guaranteed frame rate service category to provide a minimum service guarantee to classical best-effort services. The eligibility of frames for this service category is determined with the frame based generic cell rate algorithm and the transmission is guaranteed by a queuing-discipline based on two thresholds.

Machine learning-based available bandwidth estimation

2019
Today’s Internet Protocol (IP), the Internet’s network-layer protocol, provides a best-effort service to all users without any guaranteed bandwidth. However, for certain applications that have stringent network performance requirements in terms of bandwidth, it is significantly important to provide Quality of Ser- vice (QoS) guarantees in IP networks ...
