Ensemble coding of average length and average orientation are correlated

Vision Research, 2021
Viewers can summarize redundant features in groups of objects into an ensemble percept. There appears to be separate mechanisms underlying ensemble perception of low- and high-level visual features, but it is unclear whether ensemble perception of different low-level features is supported by common mechanisms.

Minimum average correlation energy filters

Applied Optics, 1987
The synthesis of a new category of spatial filters that produces sharp output correlation peaks with controlled peak values is considered. The sharp nature of the correlation peak is the major feature emphasized, since it facilitates target detection.

Inherent bias in correlation averaged images

Journal of Microscopy, 1995
SummaryThe correlation averaging algorithm frequently used to enhance micrographs of repeating structures contains an inherent bias that favours images with larger pixel values or positive noise levels. This bias not only skews the composite image toward higher pixel values, but also distorts the image by increasing the value of high‐valued pixels more

Some Contributions to Average Rank Correlation Methods and to the Distribution of the Average Rank Correlation Coefficient

Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1963
Abstract This report concerns the method and distribution of “average rho” or , the algebraic mean of M independent Spearman rank correlation coefficients based on equal N's of objects ranked on each of two variables. Included is a reference table of those values and probabilities of most closely associated with four conventional levels of significance,

Correlated Averages vs. Averaged Correlations: Demonstrating the Warm Glow Heuristic Beyond Aggregation

Social Cognition, 2005
Abstract Three studies demonstrate the warm glow heuristic (Monin, 2003) without relying on aggregated ratings, and illustrate the important distinction between correlating average ratings versus averaging individual correlations. In Study 1, we re-analyze previous data correlating individual ratings with aggregates from another small sample of raters.

An Average Correlation Coefficient

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1981
Abstract It is proposed that when a dependent variate y is classified into N sets of values with different predictive statistical relations for each classification, the associated correlation coefficients rn (n = 1 − N) can be usefully combined into a single correlation coefficient by a weighted average of the rn2.

The Average Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient

Psychometrika, 1952
A method is derived for finding the average Spearman rank correlation coefficient of N sets of ranks with a single dependent or criterion ranking of n items without computing any of the individual coefficients. Procedures for calculating the exact distribution of ρav for small values of N and n are described for the null case.

Gaussian–minimum average correlation energy filters

Applied Optics, 1991
Correlation filters with sharp delta-function correlation peaks [such as phase-only filters and minimum average correlation energy (MACE) filters] do not recognize images on which they are not trained. We show that the MACE filter cannot always recognize intermediate images of true class objects (e.g., aspect views or rotations midway between two ...

Correlation of Measured vs Averaged 3kHz Pure Tone Averages

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2011
ObjectiveAAO‐HNS reporting guidelines for hearing results recommend a pure tone average (PTA) using thresholds at 0.5, 1, 2, and 3 kHz. 3 kHz measurements, however, are not always included in routine audiometry. We determined the magnitude of PTA errors using 3 kHz thresholds interpolated from 2 and 4 kHz measurements.MethodRetrospective analysis of ...
