Plant traits determine seed retention times in frugivorous birds: Implications for long‐distance seed dispersal

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 10, Page 2247-2260, October 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Seed dispersal by frugivorous animals is a key process for plant populations and communities. When frugivores consume fruits, seeds are temporarily retained inside their guts until seed deposition.

Genomic signatures of past megafrugivore‐mediated dispersal in Malagasy palms

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 7, Page 1583-1598, July 2024.
Our results suggest that the legacy of megafrugivores regularly achieving long dispersal distances is still reflected in the population genetics of palms that were formerly dispersed by such animals. Furthermore, low genetic differentiation was possibly maintained after the megafauna extinctions through alternative dispersal (e.g.

Regional differences of functional and taxonomic bird diversity in tropical agroforests of Peru

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 6, Issue 6, June 2024.
We studied changes in the functional and taxonomic dissimilarity of bird communities in cacao agroforests and adjacent forests in two landscapes dominated by different forest types (dry tropical forest and subtropical rainforest). We found that the functional traits that are most vulnerable to disappear in agroforests at increasing distance from forest

Frugivoria e predação de sementes por aves no Parque Estadual Alberto Löfgren, São Paulo, SP. Frugivory and seed predation by birds in Alberto Löfgren State Park, São Paulo, Southeast Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesRevista do Instituto Florestal, 2007

[PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the tropics, frugivorous and nectarivorous bird species'richness and abundance differs between forest plantations and native forests. Such trophic structure differences emerge from the limitations that forest plantations has as habitat for these bird ...

Abundance of frugivorous birds and richness of fruit resource: is there a temporal relationship?

open access: yesCaldasia, 2000
It is believed that the abundance of frugivorous birds in a landscape is related to the fruit supply in each vegetation type. Although some evidence for this relationship exists at the bird community level, it has seldom been demonstrated in frugivorous ...
