Impact of global change on the distribution of mountain mammals and birds

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Climate change and land‐use changes are key drivers of global biodiversity loss. Many species are shifting to higher elevations or latitudes in response to global warming, often encountering unfavorable land‐use conditions during the shift. These changes can lead to reduced range size and increased extinction risks, particularly for mountain ...

Extreme site fidelity in long‐distance migratory shorebirds in Australia and potential implications for conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Site fidelity is the tendency for animals to repeatedly return to the same locations, either within or between years. Site fidelity enables animals to utilize knowledge of previously visited locations, including assessments of seasonal variations in health and mortality risks (e.g., predation), resource availability, and social benefits such ...

The significant role that agricultural lands play in the conservation of global biodiversity is increasingly being recognized. Migratory birds, with their wide distributions, high mobility and ability to track variable resources, are common in many agricultural habitats.

Role of freshwater availability and terrestrial land‐cover change in the distribution of a declining, terrestrial, insectivorous bird

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Insectivorous, Afro‐Palearctic migrant birds provide cross‐border ecosystem services, but many are declining rapidly. The complex life cycle of migrant birds makes their conservation difficult, but understanding where they spend time during the breeding season can help indicate where those actions will be most effective.

open access: yesEl Hornero, 1967
A report from the easternmost Buenos Aires province, Argentina, based on observations during the months of November–February, 1958–1962. The 27 species observed are listed and the approximate number of specimens given. Of special interest is the abundant occurrence of the Golden Plover and the Hudsonian Godwit, which shows that these species have not ...

Microclimate refugia shape microclimatic niches and predict individual variability in post‐breeding migration in a partially migratory species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 12, Page 2527-2541, December 2025.
The niche is characterized along a gradient of temperature and microclimate refugia. Individuals in breeding areas with low microclimate refugia availability are more likely to cover larger distances to post‐breeding areas, increasing exposure to risks.

open access: yesRevista Agraria, 1988
