Cloud Detection Using AVHRR Data

1996
The split-window facility offered by the AVHRR instrument is used to good purpose in an advanced cloud detection and analysis package called APOLLO. This is based on threshold tests to distinguish between cloud-free, fully-cloudy and partially-cloudy pixels over land and sea surfaces.

NOAA AVHRR workstation software

IEEE 1999 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. IGARSS'99 (Cat. No.99CH36293), 2003
A software package for carrying out the whole NOAA AVHRR data processing chain has been developed. This includes image data extraction, radiometric calibration and geometric corrections. The software supports three different raw file formats. Radiometric corrections include both atmospheric- and BRDF-conections.

Automatic Adjustment of AVHRR Navigation

Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, 1992
Abstract An automatic adjustment method of the Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) images navigation has been developed for operational use at the Centre de Meteorologic Spatiale (CMS) in Lannion, France. Selected coastal landmarks are correlated with small windows of an actual AVHRR image using visible and near-infrared channels 1 and 2 ...

A new AVHRR cloud climatology

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
The NOAA/NESDIS Office of Research and Applications (ORA) has embarked on a pilot data stewardship project aimed at improving the data record from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). One part of this larger project includes the generation of a new cloud climatology from the Extended AVHRR Pathfinder Atmospheres (PATMOS-x) data set.

Navigation of coastal AVHRR images

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1992
Abstract This paper describes a simple, computationally inexpensive procedure for automatically identifying coastal features in an unnotified, unregistered daytime image. The procedure can be used to identify ground control points for image registration and to provide a local correction for the navigation predicted from the satellite orbit parameters ...

NOAA-AVHRR based flood monitoring

IGARSS 2001. Scanning the Present and Resolving the Future. Proceedings. IEEE 2001 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Cat. No.01CH37217), 2002
The potential for using NOAA-AVHRR data for dynamic flood monitoring has been tested in the Senegal River Valley. Because of the coarse spatial resolution, the number of mixed pixels is large and it has been necessary to apply subpixel analyses for mapping the extent of inundated areas.

The navigation of AVHRR imagery

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1988
Abstract One of the difficulties encountered in dealing with AVHRR imagery is that of navigating the data with an acceptable degree of precision. This paper describesa method, based on satelliteephemeris, which allowsaccurately gridded hard copy images to be produced in an easily reproduceable manner.

Global AVHRR Image Compositing System (GAVICS)

IGARSS 2001. Scanning the Present and Resolving the Future. Proceedings. IEEE 2001 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Cat. No.01CH37217), 2002
Within the framework of the project "Construction of Distributed Global Environmental Database Based on Network", the Laboratory of Remote Sensing Data Analysis of Iwate University developed an AVHRR image compositing system-GAVICS (Global AVHRR Image Compositing System).
