A Case Report of Avian Polyomavirus Infection in a Blue Fronted Parrot (Amazona aestiva) Associated with Anemia

open access: yesCase Reports in Veterinary Medicine, 2015
An adult Blue Fronted Amazon parrot (A. aestiva) presenting with emesis, apathy, undigested seed in feces, and severe anemia was treated for approximately 2 months. Upon radiographic examination, an enlarged kidney was the only alteration.

Wǔhàn sharpbelly bornavirus infects and persists in cypriniform cells [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology
Our recent study using in silico data mining identified novel culterviruses (family: Bornaviridae) in fish, including a variant of Wuhan sharpbelly bornavirus (WhSBV) in grass carp kidney and liver cell lines.

Avian Bornaviruses Escape Recognition by the Innate Immune System [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2010
Like other pathogens that readily persist in animal hosts, members of the Bornaviridae family have evolved effective mechanisms to evade the innate immune response.

Pathogenesis of aquatic bird bornavirus 1 in turkeys of different age [PDF]

open access: yesnpj Viruses
Aquatic bird bornavirus 1 (ABBV1), an orthobornavirus in the family Bornaviridae, displays a broad host range among avian species, including poultry. The pathogenesis of orthobornaviruses, at least in mammals and psittacines, appears to be mediated by ...

Avian Bornaviruses in Psittacine Birds from Europe and Australia with Proventricular Dilatation Disease [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2009
To determine whether avian bornaviruses (ABVs) were a factor in proventricular dilatation disease (PDD), we used immunohistochemistry, reverse transcription–PCR, and nucleotide sequence analysis to examine paraffin wax–embedded or frozen tissue samples ...

In Vitro and In Ovo Host Restriction of Aquatic Bird Bornavirus 1 in Different Avian Hosts

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Aquatic bird bornavirus 1 (ABBV-1) is associated with chronic meningoencephalitis and ganglioneuritis. Although waterfowl species act as the natural host of ABBV-1, the virus has been sporadically isolated from other avian species, showing the potential ...

Isolation of Ontario aquatic bird bornavirus 1 and characterization of its replication in immortalized avian cell lines

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2020
Background Aquatic bird bornavirus 1 (ABBV-1) has been associated with neurological diseases in wild waterfowls. In Canada, presence of ABBV-1 was demonstrated by RT-qPCR and immunohistochemistry in tissues of waterfowls with history of neurological ...

Avian bornavirus associated with fatal disease in psittacine birds. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Virol, 2010
ABSTRACT Thanks to new technologies which enable rapid and unbiased screening for viral nucleic acids in clinical specimens, an impressive number of previously unknown viruses have recently been discovered. Two research groups independently identified a novel negative-strand RNA virus, now designated avian bornavirus (ABV), in ...

A Method for Processing Whole Blood for Heterologous Packed Red Blood Cell Transfusion for Use in a Green-Winged Macaw (Ara chloropterus). [PDF]

open access: yesZoo Biol
Residual plasma and saline following blood component processing to produce a packed red blood cell unit for transfusion in an anemic green‐winged macaw (Ara cholopterus). ABSTRACT An 11‐year‐old male green‐winged macaw (Ara chloropterus) diagnosed with severe anemia required a packed red blood cell transfusion rather than whole blood based on ...

Complete Genome Sequence of an Avian Bornavirus Isolated from a Healthy Canadian Goose (Branta canadensis). [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Announc, 2013
ABSTRACT A recent survey among wild birds demonstrated the presence of a unique genotype of avian bornavirus (ABV) in wild geese and swans in North America. Here, we report the first complete genome sequence of an avian bornavirus of the goose genotype.
