Effect of in feed administration of different butyrate formulations on Salmonella Enteritidis colonization and cecal microbiota in broilers

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2020
Butyrate has been used extensively as a feed additive to improve gut health and to decrease Salmonella colonization in poultry. Salmonella mainly colonizes the ceca so butyrate concentrations should be increased in this gut segment.

Detection of Sutterella spp. in Broiler Liver and Breast

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
Sutterella sp. is a gram-negative, microaerophilic bacterium that is particularly resistant to bile acids. It has recently been associated with several human pathologies such as inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, diabetes, and autism.

Biomarkers for monitoring intestinal health in poultry: present status and future perspectives

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2018
Intestinal health is determined by host (immunity, mucosal barrier), nutritional, microbial and environmental factors. Deficiencies in intestinal health are associated with shifts in the composition of the intestinal microbiome (dysbiosis), leakage of ...

c‐Rel–dependent Chk2 signaling regulates the DNA damage response limiting hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
In response to genotoxic injury, c‐Rel upregulates ATM‐Chk2‐p53 pathway DNA damage proteins to limiting hepatocarcinogenesis. Abstract Background and Aims Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer‐related death. The NF‐κB transcription factor family subunit c‐Rel is typically protumorigenic; however, it has recently been reported as a

Application of Disinfectants for Environmental Control of a Lethal Amphibian Pathogen

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
Chytridiomycosis is an emerging infectious disease threatening amphibian populations worldwide. While environmental disinfection is important in mitigating the disease, successful elimination of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) without excessively ...

Elevated faecal ovotransferrin concentrations are indicative for intestinal barrier failure in broiler chickens

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2018
Intestinal health is critically important for the welfare and performance of poultry. Enteric diseases that cause gut barrier failure result in high economic losses.

Research Note: Lyophilization of hyperimmune egg yolk: effect on antibody titer and protection of broilers against Campylobacter colonization

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
Oral administration of antibodies is a promising strategy against various infectious diseases. Previously, it was demonstrated that passive immunization by providing hyperimmune egg yolk through the feed reduces Campylobacter jejuni colonization in ...

Diet diversity and environment determine the intestinal microbiome and bacterial pathogen load of fire salamanders

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Diverse communities of symbiotic microbes inhabit the digestive systems of vertebrates and play a crucial role in animal health, and host diet plays a major role in shaping the composition and diversity of these communities.

Cadaveric Study of the Juvenile Grey Heron's (Ardea cinerea) Nasal Cavity and Associated Structures Through Computed Tomography and Anatomical Sections. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
This study provides the first comprehensive anatomical and CT characterization of the nasal cavity of the grey heron, enabling the identification of its major components and spatial organization. Correlative evaluation of multiplanar CT images with anatomical sections proved highly effective for delineating landmarks, offering a reference for clinical ...

Spotlight on avian pathology:Eimeriaand the disease coccidiosis [PDF]

open access: yesAvian Pathology, 2021
Coccidiosis, caused by Eimeria species parasites, remains a major threat to poultry production, undermining economic performance and compromising welfare. The recent characterization of three new Eimeria species that infect chickens has highlighted that many gaps remain in our knowledge of the biology and epidemiology of these parasites. Concerns about
