New Functional Interpretation of the Musculus Popliteus and the Musculus Extensor Digitorum Longus for the Stifle Joint According to Their Origin Coordinates in Dogs

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 6, June 2025.
The long digital extensor muscle functions as an extensor of the joint and may prevent the lateral condyle from slipping caudally during stifle extension. It may also help prevent cranial tibial thrust on the lateral side of the tibial plateau during extension.

MCL augmentation using a peroneus longus split tendon autograft satisfactorily restores knee stability with no impairment in foot function and with a low failure rate for concurrent ACL reconstruction

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, Volume 33, Issue 6, Page 2122-2135, June 2025.
Abstract Purpose Addressing grade 2 and 3 medial‐sided instabilities during anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is crucial to reduce the risk of ACL graft failure. This study introduced a minimally invasive, medial collateral ligament (MCL) augmentation technique using a peroneus longus split tendon autograft, which was fixed to the femoral

Functional alignment in robotic‐assisted total knee arthroplasty for valgus deformity achieves safe coronal alignment and excellent short‐term outcomes

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, Volume 33, Issue 6, Page 2187-2196, June 2025.
Abstract Purpose Functional alignment (FA) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) prioritizes soft tissue balancing and anatomical restoration without systematic correction to neutral alignment. Most studies have focused on varus deformity, with little evidence available about FA in valgus deformity. The hypothesis of the present study was that FA in robotic‐

Hypocalcemia After Thyroidectomy in Patients Taking Proton Pump Inhibitors

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 10, Issue 3, June 2025.
Patients taking proton pump inhibitors may be more likely to experience of short‐term and permanent hypocalcemia after thyroid surgery. The current study is the largest to date, indicating an increased risk of hypocalcemia after thyroidectomy in patients taking proton pump inhibitors.
