Awkward trunk postures and their relationship with low back pain in hospital nurses
Work, 2018BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) is the most common work-related musculoskeletal problem among healthcare workers including nurses. Awkward trunk postures have been recognized as one common problem in this group OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study were to: a) continuously assess trunk postures for an entire shift work in various hospital wards, and b ...

Determination of Angles of Awkward Wrist Postures for Wrist and Grasp Force
Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, 2000Neutral position of the wrist has been recommended because this posture can allow the greatest hand force and avoid musculoskeletal injury or illness. Most postural analyses have categorized wrist positions into three levels such as 0, 15 or 16, and 45 degrees to decide the severity of awkward wrist postures (McAtamney and Corlett, 1993).

WORK: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment & Rehabilitation, 2023
BACKGROUND: Small-scale industries (SSI) are the global economy’s backbone since most industrial workers are connected. Most of these workers are contractual and temporary without appropriate training. Also, the SSI does not have a standard workplace with an appropriate layout and infrastructure, as they manage ...

Low back disorders (LBD) are the most common musculoskeletal problem among farmers, with higher prevalence than other occupations. Although studies of the general population have shown an association between LBD and awkward working posture, farmers have unique work context and exposures that may modify this relationship.

The effectiveness of a joint labor-management program in controlling awkward postures of the trunk, neck, and shoulders: Results of a field study [PDF]
Awkward working posture at the trunk, neck and shoulders may be caused by a number of factors, including: workstation layout, visual demands of the job, design of equipment and tools, and work methods.

For posture we mean the position of the body in the space and the relationship with its segments. The correct posture is determined by neurophysiological, biomechanical, emotional, psychological and relation factors, enabling us to perform daily and working activities with the lowest energy expenditure. When possible we suggest during posture variation,

Automatic Ergonomic Assessment Considering Awkward Posture and External Load
Kalpa Publications in ComputingThe construction industry is characterized by physically demanding tasks and the adoption of awkward postures, both of which contribute to a high incidence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). Despite the significance of these factors, few studies considered the external load estimation that considers the actual weights being lifted and ...

When humans manipulate an object, they prefer to grasp the object in a way that allows to terminate the manipulation in a comfortable posture. The reasons for this end-state comfort effect have remained elusive so far. One explanation assumes that comfortable end-states are not preferred per se, but rather because they come with increased movement ...

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) can be caused by multifactorial workloads such as whole-body vibration (WBV), awkward posture and heavy lifting. Due to the complexity of field measurements, there is so far no epidemiological study investigating posture quantitatively.

Innovation needed for means to support the body during prolonged awkward postures
2006In many tasks body parts have to be held against gravity for prolonged periods of time, often in positions other than the usual upright sitting or standing. Because the object that is worked on with hands and or tools cannot be repositioned or reoriented, the worker must adapt, not seldom leading to awkward postures.
