Early Stall Warning Technique for Axial-Flow Compressors

Journal of Turbomachinery, 2004
This paper proposes a unique stall risk index based on pressure signals by high-response transducers on the casing wall at the rotor leading-edge location. The aim of the research is to explore the possibility of reducing current excessive stall margin requirement for compressor design based on the worst-case scenario.

Noise Characteristics from Axial Flow Compressors

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1952
The conventional methods of design of axial flow compressors usually consider the losses introduced by the generation of noise to be of negligible magnitudes and therefore ignore them entirely in a study of compressors. As a result, there is scant information on the relation between the noise level and the performance properties of compressors.

Stall Inception in Axial Flow Compressors

Journal of Turbomachinery, 1991
Studies have been conducted on two laboratory test compressors to investigate the process leading to the formation of finite amplitude rotating stall cells. The measurements were obtained from circumferential arrays of hot wires and were spatially and temporarily analyzed to show that modal perturbations are not always present prior to stall, and when ...

An Improved Axial Flow Compressor Design

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1965
In using the method of stage stacking to compute the off-design performance of multi-stage axial compressors, it has been observed that the limitation on performance at speeds above the design speed has been set by the stall and the choke points of the rear stages(1).

Unsteady Flow in Axial Flow Compressors

1991
A review is made of the experimental rotating stall work on a low-speed compressor stage. The instantaneous flow field inside the cell is explored using multiple hot wires in the absolute frame of reference. Rotor blade stall and radial drift of the boundary layer is investigated by on-rotor blade instrumentation.

Axial-Flow Compressors for Gas Turbines

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1948
Abstract The development of the gas turbine during the last decade has opened a new field for compressor application. The compressor is an essential component of every gas-turbine power plant. It delivers air at some elevated pressure to the burner in sufficient quantity to maintain an efficient combustion of fuel and to cool the ...
