Gout is a common metabolic disorder resulting from supersaturation of uric acid in extracellular fluid and deposition of monosodium urate crystals in tissues. Gouty arthritis typically affects the peripheral joints of the appendicular skeleton, especially the feet and hands. Gouty involvement of the spine, however, is not as rare as generally perceived.

In 1930 I succeeded in obtaining the first laminagraphs. I was followed in rapid succession by Ziedses des Plantes (1931), Bartelink (1932), and by Grossmann and Chaoul (1935). Since then, the method has been generally adopted under the names of planigraphy, stratigraphy, laminagraphy, and tomography.

Nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis
Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology, 2017Non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) is a complex disease process that is part of the spectrum of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). This article reviews the current state of the literature as the understanding of this disease spectrum expands. The conceptual history and terminology, genetics, and epidemiology are reviewed.

A data indicator-based deep belief networks to detect multiple faults in axial piston pumps
Mechanical systems and signal processing, 2018Detecting faults in axial piston pumps is of significance to enhance the reliability and security of hydraulic systems. However, it is difficult to detect multiple faults in the hydraulic electromechanical coupling systems because the fault mechanism of ...

Axial pattern flaps are based on a direct cutaneous artery and vein supplying a segment of skin. They provide a large, robust option for large wound closure. Many different axial pattern flaps have been described to provide options for closure of wounds located from the nose to the tail.

While neuroarthropathy has long been recognized, major stress has been placed upon advanced changes in peripheral joints, particularly in tabetic patients. Recent experience with 14 cases of vertebral neuroarthropathy documents its acute or rapidly progressive development in the spine (an infrequently stressed site) and illustrates etiologies other ...
