Cylindrical shells under axial compression
2006Cylindrical shell structures are often subjected to compressive stresses in the direction of the cylinder axis, which can be either uniform or varying throughout the cylinder. The buckling strength of a thin cylindrical shell under axial compression is particularly sensitive to imperfections in the shell, and the changing patterns of behaviour with ...

Defected graphene nanoribbons under axial compression
Applied Physics Letters, 2010The buckling of defected rectangular graphene nanoribbons when subjected to axial stress with supported boundary conditions is investigated using atomistic simulations. The buckling strain and mechanical stiffness of monolayer graphene decrease with the percentage of randomly distributed vacancies.

Axial compression fracture in carbon fibres
Journal of Materials Science, 1975Axial compression fracture of carbon fibres was studied by embedding single fibres in epoxy resin and compressing the specimens parallel to the fibre axis. By careful optical monitoring of the fibre surface the earliest stages of fracture were identified leading to estimates of the fibre axial compression failure strengths.

Axially Symmetric Creep Buckling of Circular Cylindrical Shells in Axial Compression
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1968Abstract The creep-buckling phenomenon of circular cylindrical shells subjected to axial compression is studied in the presence of initial imperfections when the creep strain rate is proportional to a power of the stress with the exponent greater than unity.

Unique dynamic axial compression packing system
Journal of Chromatography A, 1998A new dynamic axial compression system (MultiPacker; MODcol, St. Louis, MO, USA) was tested for packing small particle stationary phases into 5.08 cm I.D. preparative columns. The unique design of this system allows a column to be removed and the hydraulic system be used to pack other columns. Several stationary phases were packed and theoretical plate

Double-Tee Members in Axial Compression
Engineering Journal, 2015This paper presents tabulated compressive strengths of double-tee members, which are comprised of two WT members oriented with their flanges back to back (referred to as "2WTs"ť or "double WTs"ť hereafter). The benefits and typical use of these members are described, including schematic details of connection designs.

Experimental Study on CFRP-PVC Confined RAC under Axial Compression
Solid State Phenomena, 2019Compared with natural aggregate concrete (NAC), the cylinder compressive strength and elastic modulus of Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) are decreased, but the brittleness is increased.
