Dispersion of Axially Symmetric Waves in Elastic Rods

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1962
The relation between frequency and propagation constant, for axially symmetric waves in an infinitely long, isotropic, circular rod, as given by Pochhammer’s equation, is explored. A spectrum, covering a large range of frequencies, is developed for real, imaginary, and complex propagation constants, and the influence of Poisson’s ratio is described.

Axial dispersion in beds of small particles

The Chemical Engineering Journal, 1972
Abstract Axial dispersion coefficients (EA) in beds of small (0.1–1 mm) particles are often needed to interpret reaction rate data. A chromatographic technique was used to evaluate such coefficients for beds of porous catalyst particles and beds of non-porous glass beads over a wide range of velocities (Rep = 0. 00237 to 11.9).

Axial Dispersion of Sedimented Colloids

Separation Science and Technology, 1982
Abstract After an ensemble of identical particles has had time to settle along the y-axis to their equilibrium distribution in a field of potential energy %oS(y) by gravity, but prevented from adsorbing by double-layer repulsion, their dispersion by Poiseuille flow between two horizontal plates is predicted. The residence-time distribution of particles

Axial dispersion in a reciprocating plate column

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1996
AbstractAxial mixing in a reciprocating plate column with different amplitudes has been investigated for single‐phase and two‐phase (air‐water) systems. Experiments were performed in water in a semi‐batch scheme (no water flow) in a 1.26 m high and 101.6 mm internal diameter column. It was found that the axial dispersion coefficient is a strong function

Dynamics Of Axially Dispersed Reactors

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2008
Axially dispersed reactors with simultaneous convection, dispersion, and reaction might be used to approximate real reactors. While the steady-state solution to an axially dispersed reactor is well-described in the literature, its dynamic behavior is not often discussed.

Modelling the axial dispersion of particles in froths

International Journal of Mineral Processing, 2007
Abstract The separation achieved through flotation is dependent on the selective attachment of mineral particles to bubble surfaces. However, the majority of solids collected have been attributed to unattached particles. This is due to the release of attached particles from bubble surfaces due to bursting on the top of the froth and coalescence ...

Evaluation of axial dispersion and mixing performance in oscillatory baffled reactors using CFD

open access: yes, 2013
Background The paper reports extensive CFD work and analyses of an oscillatory baffled reactor (OBR) planned to be used for the production of polyaniline continuously. In the polyaniline process, viscosity changes during the course of the reaction.

Axial dispersion in a channel with oscillating walls

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1993
An analysis is made of solute transport through a fluid within a long, but finite, channel or pipe whose walls remain parallel but oscillate transversely. When the fluid is viscous, the wall motion causes steady Streaming. Axial dispersion of solute is calculated over a wide parameter range, and mean longitudinal transport is found to be greatly ...

Danckwerts' degree of segregation for the axial dispersion model

Chemical Engineering Science, 1991
Abstract Danckwerts' degree of segregation for the axial dispersion model has been calculated using some values of the Peclet number. The Monte Carlo technique has been applied to simulate a random walk, which is the discrete approximation of the axial dispersion model. The axial dispersion model's degree of mixing does not reach the state of maximum

Axial dispersion of spheres fluidized with liquids

AIChE Journal, 1966
AbstractSolids dispersion due to the simultaneous diffusion (random particle motion) and classification (segregation) of fluidized spheres has been investigated. The model developed permits calculation of the mean concentration of spheres of both sizes in a mixture of two sizes of fluidized spheres as a function of bed length.
