Viscoplastic displacements in axially rotating pipes

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2020
Abstract We investigate experimentally the effects of a pipe axial rotation on buoyant miscible displacement flows in an inclined pipe. The displacing Newtonian fluid (salt-water solution) is heavier than the displaced viscoplastic one (Carbopol solution).

Effect of axial pinhole displacement in confocal microscopes

Applied Optics, 1993
The effect of axial misalignment of the detector pinhole in confocal microscopes is investigated. We find that the use of a flat mirror to determine the axial position of the pinhole in a reflection microscope does not necessarily give the correct location.

Analysis of Influence Parameters on Axial Movement Displacement about Cross Wedge Rolling Asymmetric Shaft Part

open access: yesApplied Mechanics and Materials, 2010
. Determining axial movement displacement is a key question for designing the die which is used to form asymmetric shaft parts by CWR. FE model is established in this paper, the rule of process parameters influence on axial movement displacement is also ...

Axial and angular displacement fiber-optic sensor

Applied Optics, 1998
An intensity-based fiber-optic sensor for measuring axial and angular displacement has been designed and tested in a controlled laboratory environment. In addition, a mathematical model allowing the simultaneous calculation of the three desired parameters needed to characterize the tilt and the position of a surface under investigation is described ...

Axial Linear Patellar Displacement

The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2009
Background The tools for measuring the congruence angle with digital radiography software can be difficult to use; therefore, the authors sought to develop a new, easy, and reliable method for measuring patellofemoral congruence. Hypothesis

Uniformity of Axial Displacement in Element Testing

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2008
Abstract Uniform axial deformation is a basic assumption in element testing, where axial strain typically is determined from displacement measurements. In applying force through rigid platens, however, some rotation may occur such that the fundamental stress field is perturbed. Thus, nonuniformity among measures of axial displacement may

Response of a Strand to Axial and Torsional Displacements

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1973
Taking advantage of geometric considerations the authors give explicit expressions for the determination of axial force, bending and twisting moments in the helical wires, and for the axial force and twisting moment in the core of a 7-wire strand subjected to axial and torsional displacements.

Measurement of the axial displacement with information entropy

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2004
For completely describing the movement of a bead in an optical tweezer system, the measurement of the axial movement of the bead is necessary as well as its lateral movement. In order to find a convenient method to measure the axial displacement of the trapped bead, a new method based on Shannon's information entropy is developed. When the bead is in a

Immiscible displacement flows in axially rotating pipes

Physics of Fluids, 2023
We experimentally study buoyant immiscible displacement flows in an axially rotating pipe, with varying flow parameters, such as the mean imposed flow velocity, density difference, pipe rotation speed, and pipe inclination angle. Via employing image processing and ultrasound Doppler velocimetry techniques, we analyze key flow features, including ...

A Piezoresistive Bacterial Cellulose- based Sensor for Axial Displacement Measurements

2020 17th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD), 2020
The paper introduces an organic axial displacement sensor based on Bacterial Cellulose, impregnated with a conducting polymer. The composite uses Bacterial Cellulose as the structural material, while the conducting polymer is absorbed. The piezoresistive properties of the composite have been studied with the aim of investigating the possibility of ...
