Centrifuge Modelling of Tunnelling beneath Axially Loaded Displacement and Non-Displacement Piles in Sand [PDF]

open access: yesGeotechnical Frontiers 2017, 2017
Tunnelling under piled structures is becoming more common in urban areas. However, there is limited guidance available for the prediction of settlements and the loss of bearing capacity of existing piles due to tunnel excavation. This paper aims to provide an improved understanding of the response to tunnelling of axially loaded displacement and non ...

Design and Experimental Validation of a Ducted Counter-rotating Axial-flow Fans System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An experimental study on the design of counter-rotating axial-flow fans was carried out. The fans were designed using an inverse method. In particular, the system is designed to have a pure axial discharge flow.

Detection of Winding Axial Displacement of a Real Transformer by Frequency Response Analysis without Fingerprint Data

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Detection of the axial displacement of power-transformer winding is important to ensure its highly reliable operation. Frequency response analysis is a promising candidate in detecting the axial displacement.

Finite Element Stress Simulation of Six-hole Tight-waist Laminated Coupling Under Different Load

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2021
Laminated couplings are often subject to torque, centrifugal force, axial displacement and angular displacement during operation. The stress analysis of the laminated couplings under various loads can provide a reliable guarantee for the safe operation ...

Random vibration response analysis of longitudinal roadheader

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua, 2018
In order to research random vibration characteristics of longitudinal roadheader under random cutting load, a multi-rigid-body dynamics model of the longitudinal roadheader was established by use of ADAMS software.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Behavior of Micropile (Type D) Subjected to Vertical Load: Parametric Numerical Studies

open access: yesApplied Mechanics
Micropiles, small-diameter-drilled and grouted piles, are often used to provide foundation support in challenging ground conditions. This research seeks to understand the behavior of Type D micropiles (pressure-grouted) within layered soil profiles ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
