Application of a Two-dimensional Unsteady Viscous Analysis Code to a Supersonic Throughflow Fan Stage [PDF]

open access: yes
The Rai ROTOR1 code for two-dimensional, unsteady viscous flow analysis was applied to a supersonic throughflow fan stage design. The axial Mach number for this fan design increases from 2.0 at the inlet to 2.9 at the outlet. The Rai code uses overlapped

Laser anemometer measurements in a transonic axial-flow fan rotor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Laser anemometer surveys were made of the 3-D flow field in NASA rotor 67, a low aspect ratio transonic axial-flow fan rotor. The test rotor has a tip relative Mach number of 1.38.

Precursor Mineral Phases of Forming Mollusk Shell Nacre: A Study of Hydrated Samples

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mineral, organic phase, and water are the essential components in mollusk shell nacre formation. Their interplay is not well understood, because the hydrated material is difficult to observe at high resolution, under close to native conditions. Forming nacre is studied using environmental and cryo‐electron microscopy and hydrated ACC phases, together ...

Influence of slotted casing treatment with surface roughness and dimples on the performance of an axial flow fan

open access: yesCogent Engineering
A numerical analysis is conducted to assess the impact of slotted casing treatments, dimples, and surface roughness on the performance of an axial flow fan. Five configurations were evaluated: baseline (without any flow control), axial slots, axial slots

Solvent‐Free Bonding Mechanisms and Microstructure Engineering in Dry Electrode Technology for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dry electrode technology revolutionizes battery manufacturing by eliminating toxic solvents and energy‐intensive drying. This work details two promising techniques: dry spray deposition and polymer fibrillation. How their unique solvent‐free bonding mechanisms create uniform microstructures for thicker, denser electrodes, boosting energy density and ...

The WINCOF-I code: Detailed description [PDF]

open access: yes
The performance of an axial-flow fan-compressor unit is basically unsteady when there is ingestion of water along with the gas phase. The gas phase is a mixture of air and water vapor in the case of a bypass fan engine that provides thrust power to an ...

Laser‐Based Sculpturing of Embedded Ultrathin Metal‐Oxide Nanopores for Enhanced Biomolecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐drilling of embedded HfO2 membranes creates three layer nanopores with Gaussian‐shaped cavities sculptured in the supporting layers. These embedded solid‐state nanopores slow DNA translocation by 12‐fold compared to SiNx pores, enabling high‐resolution, label‐free detection of short DNAs, RNAs, and proteins.
