Effect of rotor-to-stator spacing on acoustic performance of a full-scale fan (QF-5) for turbofan engines [PDF]

open access: yes
A study was made of the effect of increasing the fan rotor-to-stator spacing on the noise level of a full-scale, single-stage, 1.6-pressure-ratio fan. Noise data were obtained with axial spacing of 1.14, 1.65, and 2.27 rotor chord lengths.

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

Effects of the Second-Stage of Rotor with Single Abnormal Blade Angle on Rotating Stall of a Two-Stage Variable Pitch Axial Fan

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
It is of great value to study the impact of abnormal blade installation angle on the inducement mechanism of rotating stall to achieve the active control of rotating stall in an axial fan.

Acoustic and aerodynamic performance of a 1.5-pressure-ratio, 1.83-meter (6 ft) diameter fan stage for turbofan engines (QF-2) [PDF]

open access: yes
The fan was externally driven by an electric motor. Design features for low-noise generation included the elimination of inlet guide vanes, long axial spacing between the rotor and stator blade rows, and the selection of blade-vane numbers to achieve ...

Experimental comparison between a counter-rotating axial-flow fan and a conventional rotor-stator stage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Based on the requirement of energy consumption level and weight and dimension restriction, compact axial machines are highly demanded in many industrial fields.

Design of the optimized and downsized axial fan for the air carrier orchard sprayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The new vineyard and orchard installations are made with a high intensity of plants per hectare and therefore with a reduced distance between the rows. The tractors and the air carrier sprayers for plant protection, must therefore have smaller width.

Photoswitchable Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A conductive material where the conductivity can be modulated remotely by irradiation with light is presented. It is based on films of conductive metal–organic framework type Cu3(HHTP)2 with embedded photochromic molecules such as azobenzene, diarylethene, spiropyran, and hexaarylbiimidazole in the pores.

Method and turbine for extracting kinetic energy from a stream of two-phase fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
An axial flow separator turbine is described which includes a number of nozzles for delivering streams of a two-phase fluid along linear paths. A phase separator which responsively separates the vapor and liquid is characterized by concentrically related

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous
