Statistical model of the tool/workpiece mechanical interactions in FSW [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The robotization of the FSW process is facing two challenges which are to support the amplitude of the tool / workpiece mechanical interaction generated by welding and to apply the process parameters and in particular the axial force.

Three-pion exchange: a gap in the nucleon-nucleon potential

open access: yes, 1999
The leading contribution to the three-pion exchange nucleon-nucleon potential is calculated in the framework of chiral symmetry. It has pseudoscalar and axial components and is dominated by the former, which has a range of about 1.5 fm and tends to ...

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

The Axial Force in Aluminium Foam Drilling

open access: yesTehnički vjesnik = Technical gazette, 2006
Metals in foam shape, the so called metallic foams or metal foams, consist of a base metal material with a various amount of gas bubbles dispersed throughout the body of the material. These bubbles are actually cavities or cells and because of that, metal foams are low density materials with high strength and rigidity, as well as with good damping ...

New Onset of Fibromyalgia After Exposure to a Combat Environment: A Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Traumatic life events are hypothesized to be triggers for the onset of fibromyalgia. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common comorbidity of fibromyalgia. However, limited prospective data are available on the development of fibromyalgia after exposure to high‐magnitude stress.

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...
