The Axially Loaded Circular Cylinder

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1962
Commencing with Kelvin’s closed-form solution to the problem of a concentrated force acting at a given point in an indefinitely extended solid, a Fourier transform method is used to obtain an exact solution for the case when the force acts along the axis of a circular cylinder.

Axial Equivalent Load for Slew Ring Bearings under an Eccentric Axial Load

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2006
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Single row four point contact ball bearings are routinely used as slew ring bearings under a combination of axial and radial loads and moment. Features such as gear teeth and mounting holes can also be integrated into these bearings, so specific hardness levels and hardening depths are often required on the ...

Axially Loaded Sandwich Panels

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1987
In recent years there has been a dramatic increase of interest in sandwich cladding panels consisting of metal faces and a rigid foam core. Previous studies have concentrated on the behavior of these panels when subject to bending action due to wind and snow load and under temperature gradient.

Axially Loaded Members

1998
The design of axially loaded members considers any member where the applied loading induces either axial tension or axial compression. Members subject to axial forces most frequently occur in bracing systems, pin-jointed trusses, lattice girders or suspension systems, as shown in Figure 3 ...

Struts Carrying Nonuniform Axial Loads

Journal of the Structural Division, 1965
A method of approximation is given for finding the elastic critical load of struts with axial loads that vary linearly along their lengths, using existing tables and an additional table of stability functions. The method applies to isolated struts, struts continuous through several supports, or complete frameworks containing struts with nonuniform ...

Load Transfer for Axially Loaded Piles in Clay

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1966
An analytical method for developing a theoretical load-settlement curve for axially loaded piles in clay is presented. The method is based on the correlation of the ratio of load transfer to soil shear strength as a function of pile movement. The results of studies of field tests of instrumented piles and laboratory tests of small piles in clay are ...

Flexibility of axially symmetric bellows under axial loading

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1974
Abstract A simple energy method is used to find an expression for the flexibility of axially symmetric elastic bellows under axial loading. Results are expressed in terms of a single geometrical parameter, and are shown to be in good agreement with existing exact solutions for a range of values of the geometrical parameter from zero to a value large ...

Response of Axially Loaded Piles

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1975
The Purpose of this paper is to present a closed form solution of the special case of this problem where the soil resistance is considered to be uniform linear elastic-plastic.

Axial Loading of Rods

2014
This chapter covers the analytical description of rod or bar members. Based on the three basic equations of continuum mechanics, i.e. the kinematics relationship, the constitutive law and the equilibrium equation, the partial differential equation which describes the problem is derived.

Axially Loaded Column Base Plates

Journal of the Structural Division, 1978
Results are presented for an experimental and analytical study of steel column base plates subject to axial loads. A total of 19 tests with the plates placed on concrete cubes and with loads applied only to the central portion of the base plate have demonstrated that the design approach in the present American Institute of Steel Construction ...
