Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

Classical and numerical approaches to determining V-section band clamp axial stiffness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
V-band clamp joints are used in a wide range of applications to connect circular flanges, for ducts, pipes and the turbocharger housing. Previous studies and research on V-bands are either purely empirical or analytical with limited applicability on the ...

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

Investigating the Interhemisphere 14C Offset in the 1st Millennium AD and Assessment of Laboratory Bias and Calibration Errors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Past measurements of the radiocarbon interhemispheric offset have been restricted to relatively young samples because of a lack of older dendrochronologically secure Southern Hemisphere tree-ring chronologies. The Southern Hemisphere calibration data set

Application and analysis of Cr-coated GdN-CBA to i-SMR core with two control rod patterns for load-following operations

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
A new burnable absorber called GdN-CBA with Cr-coating is applied to the i-SMR (Innovative Small Modular Reactor) for boron-free operation. The burnable absorber considered in this study employs a gadolinium nitride coating burnable absorber with a 20 μm

Investigation of Offset Recovery Algorithms for High-Performance Bluetooth Receivers

open access: yes, 2005
Research has shown that significant degradation in performance can occur even when operating within the limits for carrier frequency and modulation index offsets permitted by the Bluetooth standard.

Primary osteoarthritis of the shoulder: are there differences in scapular morphology, orientation, and rotator cuff action lines between patients and healthy controls?

open access: yesJSES International
Background: There is currently no in depth description of glenoid vault morphology, the rotator cuff action lines, and scapulothoracic orientation in patients with shoulder osteoarthritis (OA).
