Improving the efficiency of axial pumps
Russian Engineering Research, 2012Improvement in the efficiency of axial pumps by reducing the hydraulic losses in the channels between the pump blades is considered. Specifically, the pressure and velocity head are redistributed in the gaps between the rims.

Abstract: Two well‐known centrifugal and axial pumping principles are used simultaneously in a new blood pump design. Inside the pump housing is a spiral impeller, a conically shaped structure with threads on the surface. The worm gears provide an axial motion of the blood column through the threads of the central cone.

Each year, thousands of cardiac patients await healthy donor hearts for transplantation. Due to the current shortage of donor hearts (approximately 2300 per year), these patients often require supplemental circulatory support until a transplant becomes available. This supplemental support is often provided by a mechanical heart pump or left ventricular

The valvo-pump. An axial, nonpulsatile blood pump.
ASAIO transactions, 1992The valvo-pump, an axial, nonpulsatile blood pump implanted at the heart valve position while preserving diseased heart muscle, has several advantages over an artificial heart replacement, including 1) a good anatomic fit to the natural heart, 2) less blood contacting surface, and 3) ease of implantation.

CONE FLOW AND AXIAL FLOW PUMPS
1993This chapter describes cone flow and axial flow pumps. For low heads up to about 40 m per stage and for type numbers above about 3000, cone flow and axial flow pumps may be used. In general, these pumps have vertical spindles and are arranged to draw water directly from a well or sump, for example, mixed flow pump.

From an engineering point of view, the suitable revolution number for high efficiency operation of an axial flow pump is known. A multistage axial flow pump is a useful tool for reducing revolution number with a high efficiency axial flow pump. A two stage (25) axial flow pump designed at a 5 L/min flow rate and a 100 mmHg pressure head was evaluated ...

Hydromechanical principles of axial pumps
1991Generally, pumps can be classified into two main categories: displacement pumps and rotary pumps. The energy transfer in displacement pumps is characterized by periodic changes of a working space. Typical displacement pump types are piston pumps, gear pumps or roller pumps.

Submersible axial-flow pumps for dredges
Hydrotechnical Construction, 19951. For the first time in Russia a submersible axial-flow dredge pump was developed and tested for installation as a first-stage pump on dredges to reduce the negative pressure before the hold dredge pump and to increase its positive suction head. 2.

Slipper Balance in Axial Piston Pumps and Motors
Journal of Tribology, 1992The paper presents the results of an experimental and theoretical investigation of the effect of clamping ratio and orifice size on the performance of slippers in axial piston pumps and motors. Polishing of the running face to a slightly convex form appears to be essential for successful operation under all conditions. It is shown that slippers operate

Advanced Suction Detection for an Axial Flow Pump
Artificial Organs, 2006Abstract: An automatic detection system for ventricular collapse was developed and tested in a first clinical trial as part of a physiological speed control concept for axial flow pumps. From this clinical experience, and based on the acquired data during this trial, an optimization of the developed system was performed.
