Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Numerical Study on the Effects of Helix Diameter and Spacing on the Helical Pile Axial Bearing Capacity in Cohesionless Soils

open access: yesJournal of the Civil Engineering Forum
The methods employed to calculate the axial bearing capacity of a helical pile depends on the shear failure model around the pile, which is also influenced by the spacing and diameter of the helical plates.

The QCD Chiral Condensate from the Lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We determine the chiral condensate from simulations of quenched lattice QCD with Wilson fermions. Our measurements have been obtained with high statistics at three values of the gauge coupling, corresponding to UV cutoffs in the range 2 - 4 GeV.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Assessment of the Exploitation Potential of High-Temperature Geothermal Resources in the First Deep Heat Storage of Yangbajing

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Well spacing and reinjection rate are two critical parameters controlling the efficiency and sustainability of hot dry rock geothermal development. Taking the Yangbajing geothermal field in Tibet as the geological setting, permeability experiments were ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Is the ground state of Yang-Mills theory Coulombic? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We study trial states modelling the heavy quark-antiquark ground state in SU(2) Yang-Mills theory. A state describing the flux tube between quarks as a thin string of glue is found to be a poor description of the continuum ground state; the infinitesimal
