Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Replacing ordinary concrete in partially encased concrete (PEC) columns with high-strength and durability reactive powder concrete (RPC) significantly improves their axial capacity and suppresses local buckling of the steel section.

Nucleon structure from 2+1 flavor lattice QCD near the physical point
We present an update on our results of nucleon form factors measured on a large-volume lattice $(8.1\rm{fm})^4$ at almost the physical point in 2+1 flavor QCD. The configurations are generated with the stout-smeared $\mathcal{O}(a)$ improved Wilson quark

Experimental studies of equilibrium vortex properties in a Bose-condensed gas [PDF]
We characterize several equilibrium vortex effects in a rotating Bose-Einstein condensate. Specifically we attempt precision measurements of vortex lattice spacing and the vortex core size over a range of condensate densities and rotation rates.

Optimal dead space in axial-type expander
In this thesis a method for determining optimal dead space in an axial-type expander is developed. The axial-type expander in question is for use in a steam engine, a environmental friendly and fuel-agnostic alternative to the ICE-engine. Optimal dead space is of importance as an increase in the dead space lowers the efficiency of the engine, however ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Controlling secondary flow in Taylor-Couette turbulence through spanwise-varying roughness [PDF]
Highly turbulent Taylor-Couette flow with spanwise-varying roughness is investigated experimentally and numerically (direct numerical simulations (DNS) with an immersed boundary method (IBM)) to determine the effects of the spacing and axial width $s$ of

To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.
